AUDITION NOTICE – THE THEATRE

Ulster American by David Ireland (The Fifth Step) was awarded “Best of Edinburgh” in its 2018 world debut. Woody Harrelson starred in London’s West End Premiere (2023-2024), and Matthew Broderick in the American premiere in New York (2026).

Ulster American is a dark and outrageous satire. What happens when the accepted status quo is questioned, used as a moral weapon, a personal brand, an identity, or the truth?

Canada’s English-language debut.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Actors of any age and nationality are welcome to express interest in any role. Fluency in the dialect is required.

Jay Conway: Male, 40s, American, Academy Award-Winning Actor.
Leigh Carver: Male, 40s, English, Director. British RP Dialect.
Ruth Davenport: Female, 30s, Northern Irish, Playwright. Northern Irish Dialect.

Auditions: July 16 & 17, 2025 from 12pm-8pm, at the theatre in Calgary’s Beltline (215 14th Ave SW).

Sides will be sent via email to actors in advance of the audition.

Please bring a copy of your headshot and resume with you to your audition, or email auditions@thetheatre.com AFTER your audition is complete.

SCHEDULE
Rehearsals begin the week of August 16, 2026.

Rehearsals: Mon, Tues, Fri – 5pm-9pm; Sat & Sun – 9am-3pm
Tech: Sept 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 from 5pm-10pm
Opening: Friday, September 18, 2026
Dark Days: Sept 22, 23, 29, 30 (please note: Mondays are not a dark day)
Closing: Sat, October 3, 2026

Please only commit to an audition slot if you are available for all rehearsal days and performance dates.

Note: specific rehearsal hours may be flexible and are dependent upon cast availability.

ENGAGEMENT DETAILS
We welcome auditions from both Equity and non-Equity artists. Any necessary permissions or arrangements with Equity will be discussed/arranged via appropriate channels.

Artist compensation is dependent upon corporate partnerships and project-specific funding. Neither of which is likely.
