Since the irreverent, hilarious play Oh Mary! hit the Broadway stage in 2024, it’s developed a fervent following of fans that includes the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Whoopi Goldberg, Dan Levy and Zoë Kravitz. Now, Toronto fans can finally get in on the fun: the Tony-winning hit is coming to Toronto for a limited engagement run in 2027.

Oh Mary! will be stopping in the city as part of its North American tour which begins in fall 2027, and it will be a “strictly limited engagement” at Royal Alexandra Theatre as part of the 2027-2028 Off-Mirvish season.

Written by Tony and Olivier Award winner Cole Escola, the show began with Escola playing the titular Mary Todd Lincoln. The story follows Lincoln in the days leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, portraying Mary as a suffocated, self-absorbed wife in a loveless marriage desperate to pursue her dreams of returning to the cabaret and becoming a star. Campy and hilarious, Escola created a character that requires a level of absurdity and ridiculousness to play well. So of course, part of the fun of Oh Mary! since Escola first passed on the role of Mary to Betty Gilpin in 2025 is guessing who is stepping into her can-can boots next.

In Oh Mary!‘s Broadway run so far, Mary has been played by a staggeringly incredible lineup of stars, including Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski, James Cameron Mitchell, Maya Rudolph, Meg Stalter and Bowen Yang.

No information has been shared yet on the cast for this North American tour, but there will surely be plenty of speculation in the months leading up to the run. There are entire Reddit threads dedicated to this discussion, after all.

Oh Mary! has continued to break records during its run, becoming the first show in Lyceum Theatre’s 121-year history to gross more than $1,000,000 in a single week. It also broke its own box office record 14 times.

It’s unclear when tickets will go on sale for the Toronto engagement, but you can sign up for priority access here when the announcement is made. For now, Mary fans can eagerly await the live stage film of the show, filmed in London’s West End, which will debut on HBO Max (available through Crave in Canada) next year.
