What new documentaries and docu-series are streaming on Netflix in April 2026? Here’s our full lowdown of the Originals hitting the streamer globally.

Netflix has 12 documentary films and documentary series coming our way in April 2026, including a deep dive on a scandal involving chess grandmasters, new Untold sports documentaries, and a series from the creators of Keep Sweet: Pray & Obey. But perhaps most exciting of all is a new David Attenborough documentary re-visiting a story that began almost 50 years ago.

Here’s every new documentary project coming in April 2026, in order of release. You can find an expanded version of the new arrivals for April 2026 here.

The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson

Coming to Netflix: April 3

In May 2022, professional cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson was shot by Kaitlin Marie Armstrong at a friend’s home in Austin, Texas. Armstrong was convinced for first-degree murder in November 2023 and sentenced to 90 years in prison.

The search for her killer sparked national headlines, as did the subsequent trial. Directed by Emmy Award–winner Marina Zenovich (I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not) and produced by Academy Award–winner Evan Hayes (Free Solo), this documentary film dives into the case, going beyond the headlines and exploring how it impacted her friends, family, and colleagues, all while revealing moments of profound resilience and transformation.

Untold: Chess Mates

Coming to Netflix: April 7

How did a match between chess grandmasters devolve into a bizarre scandal about anal beads? This documentary dives into the scandal between elite chess players Magnus Carlsen, who was then world champion, and Hans Niemann. The film revisits the 2022 Sinquefield Cup, and the myriad controversies that surrounded it, specifically the allegations of cheating following Carlsen’s withdrawal from the tournament and the immense social media backlash that followed.

This feature-length documentary is directed by Thomas Tancred and executive produced by Chapman Way and Maclain Way. It follows Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which debuted on March 31, 2021.

Trust Me: The False Prophet

Coming to Netflix: April 8

From the team behind Keep Sweet: Pray & Obey, comes Trust Me: The False Prophet, a new documentary following cult expert Christine Marie and her husband, videographer Tolga Katas, who infiltrate a polygamist sect and expose the crimes of Warren Jeffs’ self-proclaimed heir.

This 4-part documentary series explores the rise of Samuel Bateman, the self-proclaimed heir to Jeffs. It features unprecedented access, from never-before-seen footage, to first-hand accounts from those inside the group.

“Trust Me offers intimate access to a normally closed world — and in doing so, I hope it exposes both the violence that enforced secrecy enables and what it takes to tell the truth when everything is at stake,” director Rached Dretzin told Netflix TUDUM. What these women did matters far beyond their community. It is a blueprint for how to dismantle even the most entrenched systems of abuse.”

At Home with the Furys (Season 2)

Coming to Netflix: April 12

WBC heavyweight champion ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury needs no introduction. He’s one of the biggest and strongest personalities in the world of sports. Despite announcing his retirement in January 2025, he’s returning to the ring to fight Arslanbek Makhmudov in London on April 11.

At the same time, his Netflix reality series At Home with the Furys will return for another season, chronicling his personal life in Morecambe with his wife, Paris, and their children. The series shines a very different kind of light on Fury — but naturally, where Tyson Fury is involved, there’s always chaos involved.

Noah Kahan: Out of Body

Coming to Netflix: April 13

In April, American singer-songwriter Noah Kahan debuts a heartfelt and revealing documentary about his ongoing struggles with the weight of fame, depression, and body dysmorphia. The documentary explores his career to date, from his beginnings playing in small venues, to headlining Fenway Park in 2024. The one song that put him on the radar of music lovers around the globe was ‘Stick Season,’ a song he wrote as a homage to his home state of Vermont.

In Out of Body, Kahan speaks candidly about his struggles, notably his eating disorder that saw him struggle massively with his body image.

“I recommend sandwiching it between a couple of MrBeast videos to soften the blow,” Kahan said after the film’s screening at SXSW (per Variety). “It’s pretty depressing. It’s definitely not like a party piece.”

Untold: Jail Blazers

Coming to Netflix: April 14

The second Untold sports documentary coming to Netflix in April 2026 is Untold: Jail Blazers, which focuses on the 2000s Portland Trail Blazers, who endured one of the most up-and-down eras in NBA history. They rose to the championship level before enduring a huge collapse. Off the court, the team had big legal issues and myriad scandals. Suffice to say, this was a team shrouded in drama and drowning in media attention.

This documentary features interviews with those closest to the action, including Rasheed Wallace, Damon Stoudamire, and Bonzi Wells.

Almost 50 years ago, Sir David Attenborough encountered a baby mountain gorilla named Pablo in Life on Earth. Now, all these years later, Netflix takes viewers back to Rwanda to catch up with the Pablo Group, the family and descendants of the gorilla that Attenborough first met all these years ago.

The documentary is developed by a top-tier creative team. Headlining the project is Oscar-winning James Reed (My Octopus Teacher) as director, alongside co-director Callum Webster. Also producing is Alastair Fothergill (Life on Our Planet), and executive producers Fothergill, DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, and Phillip Watson.

Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill

Coming to Netflix: April 21

The third Untold sport documentary of the month chronicles the shooting at Hawthorne Hill, which involves retired Olympic equestrian trainer Michael Barisone’s 2019 shooting of dressage student Lauren Kanarek. What started as a dispute slowly transformed into a vile act of violence, and it’s all covered in this twisty and thought-provoking documentary.

Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool

Coming to Netflix: April 22

Singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson had a meteoric rise to fame from a young age, as both a musician and an actress, famously starring in Yellowstone. Documentary Keepin’ Country Cool follows Wilson as she redefines what is means to be a modern country star. The film chronicles the most pivotal moments in her career, from her struggles to her triumphs, as she captivates fans across the United States. It’s described as an intimate journey that’s wildly inspiriting.

“I couldn’t be more excited that this documentary is going to be on Netflix,” Wilson said, per Deadline. “This was such a special project to make, and I hope that folks who watch it see that no dream is too big and that staying true to who you are will always lead you exactly where you’re meant to be.”

This is a Gardening Show

Coming to Netflix: April 22

Hosted by comedy legend Zach Galifianakis (who’s best known for playing Alan in The Hangover movies), Netflix’s This is a Gardening Show sees him take up a new hobby. It digs into the peaceful, but strangely complex world of gardening.

Galifianakis approaches gardening with both curiosity and his signature humour, with the goal of learning alongside his audience. Throughout the documentary, he interviews both curious kids and eccentric experts, learning how to navigate his garden and, ultimately, find a new appreciation for the outdoors.

Should I Marry a Murderer?

Coming to Netflix: April 29

A fiancée who’s completely loved-up with her partner, and imagining an idyllic life together, suddenly learns that her husband-to-be is a man accused of murder. It’s a scenario so wild that it sounds like a work of fiction, but it’s absolutely true, and it happened to Dr. Caroline Muirhead.

Caroline’s partner, Alexander ‘Sandy’, and his twin ran over a cyclist and former Navy petty officer one evening while driving down the A82 in Argyll, Scotland. They buried the body in a nearby bog. Three years later, Sandy told her what had happened, and she tipped off the police. In this documentary, Caroline recounts her entire experience.
