There is still a lot to look forward to on The Testaments. While there are some major changes from the book — such as Daisy definitely not being Baby Nichole — the story is clearly brewing for a rebellion. The timeline has shifted from Margaret Atwood’s novel, written in 2019, but it doesn’t sound like she minds all that much.

Atwood has only had good things to say about The Handmaid’s Tale spinoff, and while chatting with Slash Film, she had an exciting tease. It turns out that we’ll get to see her on the screen again!

Margaret Atwood Gets a Cameo on ‘The Testaments’

Atwood revealed that she will have a cameo during the spinoff series. She didn’t share any other details than that, which means we have no idea when she will appear on the series. Nor will she offer details about who she plays.

All Atwood shares is that she had the chance to work with Ann Dowd, who plays Aunt Lydia. With that clue, it’s possible that she plays an Aunt, although she doesn’t seem to be in the school, as we would have seen her by now. Another comment hints that she is an Aunt, as she shared, “I have a cameo in [The Testaments], though I can’t say as what, except that it’s scowly.”

Author cameos are growing more and more popular. Stephen King has certainly helped to boost the wish for them, but authors like Diana Gabaldon, Stephanie Meyer, and even Lee Child have made cameos in the past. There are sure to be more to come as there is a growing voice for authors to be more involved in the TV and movie production of their works.

Not the First Margaret Atwood Cameo

This isn’t the first time Atwood has cameoed in work based on her books. She makes a cameo during The Handmaid’s Tale series premiere, while the characters are at the Red Center. Atwood plays an Aunt, who chastizes June, even slapping her, during a shaming circle moment.

Many fans likely expected to see her return to The Testaments because of that cameo. One of the best moments to connect back to the first one would have been during the shaming circle moment on The Testaments Season 1 Episode 2.

So, while fans are disappointed that there has been a major change to the story, it doesn’t sound like Atwood is all that bothered by it. We can just treat the two formats as completely separate.
