Marvel isn’t done with live-action television yet. At New York Comic Con on Thursday, Marvel Studios revealed a brand-new series titled Zodiac for Disney Plus. The mysterious new series from Marvel Television is slated to arrive on Disney Plus sometime in 2028.
Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum confirmed the existence of Marvel Television’s Zodiac at NYCC, saying that the show will be a “spy thriller” and will begin shooting in London in spring 2027. Casting is underway, Winderbaum said.
Zodiac in Marvel Comics is the name of various criminal organizations whose members are based on the Western zodiac. They are often led by a character named Taurus. Typically, the team is an antagonist of the Avengers and SHIELD. It’s unclear if Marvel Television’s Zodiac will have any association with that veteran team of supervillains, but the show’s title appears to have an O based on the zodiac wheel and an A that incorporates the eagle in SHIELD’s logo.
Elsewhere in Marvel Comics, the Zodiac was a group of leaders of various organizations, including Hydra, SHIELD, and the Hand, who were assembled by a man who used the moniker Aries — though he was really Leonardo da Vinci! — in an effort to reclaim a series of powerful artifacts. That group of characters included Nick Fury and his younger brother Jake Fury, Dum Dum Dugan of the Howling Commandos, Baron Strucker, and Daniel Whitehall, the Hydra agent Kraken, among others.
Marvel Television has notably scaled back on new live-action productions in recent years. In March, Marvel announced a second season of Disney Plus show Wonder Man — then shockingly canceled it a few months later. Long-awaited follow-ups to shows like Moon Knight, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel are nowhere to be seen. However, the third and final season of Daredevil: Born Again is slated to arrive next year, with a new series, VisionQuest, coming to Disney Plus next week. Despite reports that Marvel had abandoned live-action television series altogether, the Marvel Television group is said to have between three and five shows in active development.
Marvel Television has much more coming on the animation side. In addition to a second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man coming in January, Marvel’s TV arm has a third season of X-Men ’97 in the works and three stand-alone Marvel Zombies specials bound for Disney Plus.
