Minor Hotels has opened the Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River, the first tented safari camp under the Anantara brand, in Kafue National Park, Zambia. The 13-key camp is positioned on timber platforms at least 3.5 metres above ground level, providing views of the Kafue River and maintaining wildlife movement along nearly seven metres of river frontage.
The opening coincides with ongoing wildlife restoration initiatives in the park, which is home to hippos, elephants, large predators, antelope, and over 500 bird species. Activities at the camp include game drives, river safaris, guided walks, bush picnics, and catch-and-release fishing.
Designed by Meg Ralph Spaces and recognized by the LIV Hospitality Design Awards, the camp operates entirely on solar power, uses on-site water purification and bottling, and has eliminated single-use plastics. Prefabricated structures preserve existing trees, and soft red lighting is used at night to minimize disturbance to nocturnal wildlife.
Accommodation includes three Horizon Terrace Suites, each suspended 14.3 metres above the ground and accessed by a glass elevator, with upper-level star beds and decks. Nine Pool and Bush Villas offer private plunge pools and indoor spa rooms. The 400-square-metre Presidential Villa features elevated river views, exclusive boat access, and a private spa zone. All villas are supported by dedicated hosts for dining, activities, and wellness arrangements.
Dining options include a floating pontoon on the river for breakfasts, afternoon tea, and sunset dinners. Luzuba Harvestry and Twalumba Bar & Lounge serve modern Zambian cuisine, afternoon tea, cocktails, and fireside gatherings. Spice Spoons offers Zambian cooking classes.
Wellness services feature in-room Anantara Spa treatments and steam sessions in suites and villas. A floating Technogym fitness platform anchored in the river is available for private training, yoga, and relaxation. Additional activities include birdwatching and stargazing.
The camp is accessible via private charter flights from Livingstone or Lusaka to Chunga airstrip, or by a short domestic flight from Livingstone. Lusaka International Airport is a four-hour drive from the property.
