One of the most talked-about movies of the year is getting a home video release this summer. Amazon MGM Studios and Alliance Home Entertainment announced that Project Hail Mary is coming to 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on Aug. 11.
The film’s physical release will include five deleted scenes, commentary by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and a featurette titled “Earth’s Favorite Eridian.” It currently costs $27.96 on Amazon.
Amazon will complement the initial home release with a second physical edition on Oct. 13 aimed at the holiday season. It’s a 3-disc SteelBook giftset with additional features, a collectible booklet, and more. It’s priced at $49.99. Pre-orders are up for both the Aug. 11 and Oct. 13 releases.
The film is currently streaming exclusively on MGM Plus. (Which is a bit of a sicko move, because who is even subscribing to MGM Plus?) It will likely be available on Prime Video at a later date, and potentially even on Netflix, given that the two platforms have partnered in the past.
Project Hail Mary has proven to be one of the most popular films of the year, and it’s currently third at the 2026 box office for both worldwide and domestic gross. It has received glowing appraisals from critics and audiences alike (it’s at 94% critic score and 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes), thanks to its sweeping scope, great performances, and much-needed dose of sci-fi optimism.
The story follows Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a middle school teacher thrust into a potentially Earth-saving project that takes him to the far reaches of space. There’s also an alien puppet rock guy who rules.
The movie is the second acclaimed adaptation of an Andy Weir novel, following 2015’s The Martian. Beyond this, a film adaptation of Weir’s book Artemis has been in development hell for some time, but Project Hail Mary directors Lord and Miller have said they still intend to make the movie.
