Welcome back to the Calgary group chat. Another week means another rundown of everything happening in the city right now, from local updates and events to new openings and everything worth knowing about.
Basically, consider this your head start before someone in your group chat sends it first.
What’s new, Calgary?
The Calgary International Beerfest returns this weekend
Calgary International Beer Festival is back this weekend at the BMO Centre with a full lineup of breweries, distilleries, and drink vendors from all across Canada.
There will be tastings, live entertainment and plenty of things to wander through, whether you’re actually a beer person or just there for the vibes. Either way, it’s one of those events where “just a couple samples” rarely stays true for very long.
Spring is finally trying its best
Calgary is seeing a bit of a weather glow-up this week, with warmer, brighter days rolling in after a pretty stubborn cold stretch over the past month. According to the Weather Network, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 20°, and it’s the kind of shift that makes everyone suddenly want to go outside again.
Calgary’s new arena is starting to take shape
Scotia Place, Calgary’s new arena, is officially coming together in a big way. Construction in the Culture + Entertainment District is now well above ground, and roof work is already underway, with the project still on track for the 2027-2028 NHL Season.
Street Sweeping is now underway
Next up, the City of Calgary street sweeping is officially underway, which is basically the city’s way of saying winter is finally being cleaned up, and we are moving on to warmer weather.
Keep an eye on the City of Calgary website for updates on the sweeping schedule in your neighbourhood so you don’t end up learning the hard way and getting a ticket for parking on the street.
New Rec Centre and Library in the works
A pretty major new community space could be coming to west Calgary, with plans for a combined rec centre and library from YMCA Calgary and Calgary Public Library.
The proposed 69,000 sq. ft. facility would include pools, fitness spaces, meeting rooms, and a full library, all in one place.
The project is still in the planning stages, but if it gets approved, it’s shaping up to be a community hub that makes the West District even more convenient.
That wraps up this week’s Calgary group chat. Between new updates, things happening around the city, and the weather finally starting to act a bit more normal, there is actually quite a bit to keep up with right now.
We hope this helped you stay in the loop so you can confidently act like you already knew all of this later in your group chat!
