Mama Cozzi’s Biscuit Crust Sausage & Cheese Breakfast Pizza

A health alert has been issued by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for a frozen pizza brand sold nationwide at Aldi stores because of possible Salmonella contamination.

The department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) was notified when the FDA discovered several FSIS establishments had received FDA-regulated ingredients that contained dry milk powder that had already been recalled for possible contamination. FSIS expects further products to be identified as the recall progresses.

Salmonella concerns

Why you should care:

Eating food that has been contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, a common bacteria-based foodborne illness. Most infected people will experience fevers, diarrhea or abdominal pains within six hours to six days after eating the foods. The illness can last up to a week. Even though it can cause some hospitalizations, most people recover without treatment.

What’s next:

The FSIS is asking anyone who has the pizzas in their refrigerators or freezers to not eat or serve them, but to dispose of them immediately or return to the place of purchase.
