Free industry resource connects reliable hotel data, answer engine optimization and practical measurement at a critical moment for hospitality

The AI Hospitality Alliance (AIHA) has published Hotel AI Visibility Criteria and KPIs, a free implementation and measurement guide for hospitality organizations.

The release comes as personal AI assistants such as Muse, Instinct and OpenAI’s dots bring new attention to how consumers delegate research, planning and everyday tasks. Muse describes travel booking among its capabilities; Instinct offers help planning getaways; and Dots can work across connected applications on a user’s behalf. For hospitality leaders, these developments make a pressing question harder to ignore: What information will an assistant find and use when helping a traveler choose a hotel?

AIHA’s position is clear: reliable data and a thoughtful answer engine optimization (AEO) strategy deserve immediate attention.

“Hospitality cannot afford to treat this as a distant technology trend,” said Ira Vouk, Founder of the AI Hospitality Alliance. “When a traveler asks an assistant where to stay, we want our industry to be prepared. Hotels need to take responsibility for the information they publish, understand how they are being represented and make informed decisions about what to improve. That is why this work matters so much right now.”

Reliable Information Is a Commercial Priority

Strong search fundamentals remain essential: accessible pages, useful written content, current business profiles and structured data that agrees with what guests can actually read. Google’s own guidance reinforces these principles for its AI search experiences and makes clear that special AI markup is not required.

For a hotel, the practical stakes are easy to understand. A family may need connecting rooms. A traveler may need specific accessibility features. Another guest may be comparing parking charges or pet policies. Clear, current answers help people assess whether a property meets their needs. Contradictory information creates uncertainty at exactly the moment the hotel needs to earn trust.

A Practical Path From Preparation to Measurement

The guide helps teams:

  • Define target guests and the property’s distinctive strengths.

  • Establish an approved Hotel Truth Set.

  • Audit website access, structure and content.

  • Test actual AI answers for presence, accuracy and recommendation.

  • Measure results using 15 defined indicators.

  • Correct issues and repeat testing.

It includes a simplified self-assessment, professional implementation guidance and reusable workbooks.

A central distinction is that website readiness and observed AI visibility require separate assessment. Technical improvements do not guarantee recommendations, and visibility does not establish booking capability.

Built Through Industry Collaboration

AIHA thanks the workgroup contributors and external reviewers whose expertise shaped the publication.

“Our industry needs shared, practical resources that people can use now,” Vouk added. “I am proud of the people who contributed their knowledge to this project and helped make a complex subject more accessible. Making this guidance freely available is part of our commitment to helping hospitality move forward together.”
