My Chemical Romance just gave many of its fans a reason to carry on.
More than 16 years after the beloved rock band released its last full-length album, frontman Gerard Way revealed that the group still wants to make another record—and suggested it could actually happen.
Way addressed the possibility during My Chemical Romance’s Saturday, September 12, concert at the Alamodome in San Antonio, where he reflected on the band’s 2022 single, “The Foundations of Decay,” its only new song since reuniting.
“We should probably make more songs. ‘Decay’ was really awesome when we kept doing it,” Way told the crowd, as seen in a video circulating on X. “And then you know, stuff happens, life happens.”

He then gave fans the update they’ve been waiting years to hear. “But, just know that, we kind of always wanted to make another record, so we hope to,” Way continued. “Because you guys, honestly, kept us alive for so long that you guys deserve another record.”
Fans were more than ecstatic to hear Way’s comment.
“AND THEY CALLED US CRAZY THEY CALLED US DELUSIONAL FOR BELIEVING IN MCR5,” one fan replied.
“OMG MCR5 IS REAL,” said another.

The potential project would be My Chemical Romance’s first album since 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The band broke up in 2013 before announcing its reunion in 2019. Since then, MCR has returned to touring but hasn’t followed “The Foundations of Decay” with additional new music.
And there’s plenty happening before the guys potentially hit the studio. The San Antonio show concluded the North American leg of their Long Live the Black Parade Tour, celebrating 2006’s The Black Parade. They’ll make additional festival appearances before heading to Los Angeles for a five-show Hollywood Bowl run ending on Halloween.
One of those shows will also reunite MCR with fellow emo favorites The Used following a famously complicated relationship between the bands. The Used will open the October 30 show, more than two decades after the groups collaborated on a cover of Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure.”
As for a fifth album, MCR fans will just have to wait and see.
