Nikki Crawford took on the persona of the beloved character of Lexie Carver on the Peacock streaming soap opera Days of Our Lives. Now that her time as the character has come to an end, the actress has taken to social media to pay tribute to the character.

Viewers were led to believe that Lexie died back in 2012 following the retirement of Renee Jones, as Lexie was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and passed away in her husband, Abe Carver (James Reynolds), arms.

Crawford assumed the role earlier this year on March 6, 2026, when it was revealed that she was placed in a cryogenic tube and placed in a medically induced coma until Dr. Rolf had developed a cure that brought her back to life.

As the story played out, the cure was only temporary, and the drug’s power wore off; thus Lexie’s health began quickly declining, ultimately leading to her death once again.

Crawford took to Instagram to reflect on her time on the soap opera. “What a beautiful ride. ❤️,” she began.

She then paid tribute to her character, sharing, “Lexie, you challenged me, moved me, and gave me so much to carry with me.”

With soap operas, and Days of Our Lives in particular, death doesn’t always mean that there is no chance for a return, and Crawford acknowledged that she would be up for a possible return, ending her tribute to the beloved character saying, “Until we meet again… 💕.”

Lexie Carver debuted on Days of Our Lives in 1984, originally played by an actress. Still, it wasn’t until the character was recast in 1993, when Renee Jones assumed the role, that the character became ingrained in the fabric of the soap opera.

Over the years, her love story with Abe Carver, her tumultuous relationship with her biological parents, and the evil Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) and Celeste Perrault (Tanya Boyd) kept viewers on the edge of their seats. Still, they rooted for her to always come out on top.

Abe and Lexie became the first contracted married couple on the soap opera. However, their wedding took place off-camera during the period when Reynolds left the show for Generations.

Now fans look back fondly on the character’s legacy and on Crawford’s role in it.

Days of Our Lives streams weekdays exclusively on Peacock.
