The late Dolly Parton‘s nephew, Bryan Seaver, is asking the court to delay his upcoming hearing about a temporary restraining order against him and his security company, granted to Parton’s estate after allegedly threatening behavior.
On Friday, Oct. 2, Seaver filed a motion in Tennessee, representing himself, requesting that the hearing, which is currently set to happen on Oct. 9, be delayed 10 days, as reported by the Associated Press. This would mean that the hearing would take place on Oct. 19, if his request is granted.
As for Seaver’s reasoning for asking for the delay, the motion stated, “The defendants lack any legal knowledge or skills to proceed in this matter without retained counsel or what, if any, challenges can or should be raised.”
He argued that the extra time is needed because he is currently working to get a lawyer, and the specific lawyer he hopes to represent him reportedly cannot meet with Seaver until Monday, Oct. 5. The motion also stated that Seaver wouldn’t take issue with the current temporary restraining order being extended in order to compensate for the extra time between now and the potential new date.

She’s Alive, LLC, which is the company that manages Parton’s estate, was granted the temporary restraining order at the end of September after alleging that Seaver sent threatening messages to the estate shortly before Parton’s death, among other negative behavior.
Seaver, who was Parton’s head of security for over two decades, allegedly went on a “campaign of threats, intimidation and coercion,” according to court filings related to the restraining order shared by People. He and his security company were terminated by She’s Alive, with the estate claiming that his “terrorizing conduct made their continued retention untenable.”
Parton reportedly handpicked Seaver to be the one to announce her death from cancer, but his relationship with her estate quickly soured after she passed.
The judge in charge of Seaver’s case is Chancellor I’Ashea L. Myles, and as of writing, she has not yet responded to his request.
