In Brief: Google is updating its hotel search advertising features, requiring hoteliers to adjust their online marketing approaches to remain competitive in search results and maximize booking opportunities.

Google is about to change the rules on advertising, bringing travel-specific ad formats together. For hotels that prepare now, search could become a far more powerful way to Find, Book, and Grow.

Hotel marketers are constantly optimizing individual parts of the search journey. Keywords here. Hotel Ads there. Metasearch somewhere else.

Each channel has its own campaign structure, reporting, and optimization approach. It works, but it can also create a fragmented view of how travelers discover and book hotels.

Now, Google is bringing these worlds closer together.

Search Campaigns for Travel brings travel feeds and formats into standard Search campaigns, powered by AI Max. Instead of managing travel advertising through separate campaign types, hotels can work toward a more unified Search strategy, with more advanced bidding, optimization, and reporting capabilities.

For hoteliers, this isn’t just a change to campaign structure. It changes what good hotel search advertising looks like. And as a selected Google partner for the closed beta test, Cendyn is testing, validating and building readiness, ahead of the Search Campaigns for Travel general release.

The days of managing search in silos are ending

Think about how a traveler searches for a hotel today. They might start with “hotels in London,” then refine their search to “best hotels near Heathrow Airport with parking,” before comparing rates and availability for specific dates.

Behind those searches, hotels have traditionally relied on different advertising formats to capture different moments. Search Campaigns for Travel creates an opportunity to bring more of that activity together.

Google describes it as a “single buying door” for travel formats, giving marketers a more cohesive view of their presence across the search results page. It also brings travel advertising closer to the bidding and reporting capabilities already available in Search.

So, what actually changes?

For hoteliers, the change is both in where ads can appear, and how campaigns are built and optimized.

  • One campaign can work across more of the Search experience. Search Campaigns for Travel consolidates Booking Links and Search ad formats into a single campaign, with Text Ads and Travel Promotion Ads supporting keyword targeting. These different parts can now work together rather than being managed entirely in isolation.
  • Google’s AI gets more control over optimization. AI Max can broaden how campaigns match traveler queries, create and adapt ad experiences, and select relevant landing pages based on the context of the search.
  • Hotels get access to more of the tools Search marketers already use. Smart Bidding strategies, including Target ROAS and Target CPA, Data-Driven Attribution, and keyword and search-term reporting on travel assets bring more sophisticated optimization and measurement into travel advertising.
  • Live hotel inventory becomes part of the equation. Google can work with current rates and availability as it decides how to optimize campaigns, rather than treating hotel advertising like a static keyword exercise. The focus shifts from choosing which campaign to run, to giving Google the right signals to find and convert the right demand.

AI is smarter with live hotel data

One of the bigger shifts is what Google can do with the data behind the new campaign structure.

Hotel inventory is constantly changing. Rates change. Availability changes. Booking windows change. The value of a booking can vary depending on the dates and length of stay. What a hotel can sell today might look very different next week.

Search Campaigns for Travel gives Google’s AI more opportunity to respond to that complexity. By working with live hotel information, including current rates and availability, AI can make smarter decisions about when, where, and how a hotel should appear to travelers.

But that makes the quality of the data hotels provide increasingly important. Google has been clear: travel feeds are the prerequisite for the next generation of AI-powered travel experiences. Not a nice-to-have, but a foundation. At the heart of this is the hotel feed: the connection that sends Google up-to-date information about a property, including rates, availability, room details, and booking links. It gives Google the information it needs to understand what a hotel can actually offer at any given moment.

Imagine a traveler looking for a four-night stay in Barcelona. Your hotel has rooms available, but another property has a lower rate. Accurate, up-to-date information about your rates, availability, landing pages, and booking options gives Google better signals to determine where your hotel fits into that search.

The better the signals, the more Google can optimize against real hotel demand rather than relying on static information. For hoteliers, this makes hotel data infrastructure much more than something happening behind the scenes.

What happens next for hotels?

Until Search Campaigns for Travel becomes generally available, hotel marketers should take the time to understand the new campaign structure and consider how it fits into their existing Search and metasearch strategy.

The important thing is to understand what sits behind the new opportunity. Feed-powered Search requires accurate, live rates and availability, reliable booking links, seamless ARI connectivity, and the right campaign setup. Hotels should be looking at those foundations now, rather than waiting until the new campaign type is widely available.

Cendyn is already testing Search Campaigns for Travel with selected hotel customers, working through the integrations, campaign setup, and new capabilities in real-world hospitality environments. As one of Google’s pioneer connectivity partners, Cendyn is integrated directly with Google Hotel Center through its DMP. Building and maintaining this kind of direct feed infrastructure takes serious technical investment; it is not something that can be set up quickly. Alongside this connectivity, first-party guest and booking data from Cendyn’s Digital Marketing Platform gives Google’s AI richer signals to work with.

Hotels shouldn’t wait to start thinking about what powers their Search advertising. The hotels best placed to take advantage of Search Campaigns for Travel will be those that understand their data, feeds, and campaign infrastructure before the new opportunity becomes mainstream.

The future of hotel search is more connected

Search Campaigns for Travel is more than a new campaign structure. It signals a shift towards a more connected, AI-powered approach to hotel advertising, where live data, smarter optimization, and Search work together to capture demand.

For hotels, the opportunity is clear: better data, smarter advertising, and a more powerful way to attract high-intent demand. When Google gets smarter about how travelers search, hotels need to get smarter about how they show up.

Better data. Better visibility. Better opportunities to Find, Book, and Grow.
