Hotel Operis opened in Charleston’s Historic District following the renaming of the Grand Bohemian Charleston. Guests stayed at the Grand Bohemian Charleston on Sept. 30 and began staying at Hotel Operis on Oct. 1, 2026.
The property’s updated branding includes enhancements to its public spaces, food and beverage venues, art displays and guest programming. The name Operis is derived from the Latin word “opus,” meaning work, and also references opera and creation.
The hotel sits along Charleston’s cobblestone streets and is within walking distance of 11 theaters. Its design resembles a stage set.
Hotel Operis has introduced “Mirror Cues,” a program involving mirrors throughout the property, including in the Atrium. The mirrors are etched with a theatrical quote. The hotel also plans interactive wine and cocktail experiences, including custom wine blending at its Wine Bar and cocktail classes focused on mixology and Charleston cocktail history.
The fourth-floor rooftop and dining space has been refreshed as Arden Room Rooftop Bar & Dining. The venue takes its name from the Forest of Arden in Shakespeare’s “As You Like It.” Changes include lounge-style seating and a garden-influenced design.
Arden Room’s cocktail menu includes Whispering Willow, Salt & Sage Palomita, Arden’s Garden Martini and Secret Garden Sour. Its dinner menu includes crispy oyster sliders, crab bucatini and grouper schnitzel.
On the main floor, Café Lumen has been reimagined to serve breakfast and lunch.
The hotel’s lobby and gallery have been redesigned as a combined gathering and exhibition space. The art collection spans opera, theater, dance, music and visual media.
In the coming weeks, Arden Room Rooftop is scheduled to receive additional furnishings and decor enhancements. Brunch service is also planned for the venue, and additional programming and partnerships will be introduced over time.
Hotel Operis is located near restaurants and shops on King Street, horse-drawn carriage tours and art galleries.
