13 Years Later, One of Telltale’s Greatest Games Is Officially Making a Comeback

8 October 20263 Mins Read

Bigby is back, and the Big Bad Wolf’s old stomping grounds have never looked quite so gloriously grim. Telltale Games has confirmed that The Wolf Among Us Remastered launches on October 29, 2026, giving one of the studio’s finest narrative adventures a long-overdue visual overhaul just in time for Halloween.

Originally released across five episodes in 2013 and 2014, The Wolf Among Us follows Bigby Wolf (aka the Big Bad Wolf) as he investigates a series of grisly murders in Fabletown, a clandestine New York community populated by exiled fairy-tale characters. Based on Bill Willingham’s acclaimed Fables comic series, the game brilliantly blends hard-boiled detective fiction, supernatural intrigue, and morally ambiguous storytelling into an unforgettable neon-soaked mystery.

The remastered edition includes all five original episodes, enhanced visuals, improved lighting, updated animations, and substantially more detailed character models and environments. Telltale has also modernized the presentation while preserving the original’s distinctive comic-book aesthetic and storytelling.

The Wolf Among Us Remastered Brings Fabletown Back to Life

Perhaps the most intriguing addition is Noir Mode, which transforms the entire game into a stylish black-and-white detective thriller. Players can switch between this monochromatic presentation and the remastered visuals at any time, offering an entirely different way to experience Fabletown’s wonderfully seedy underbelly.

Considering the original game’s penchant for chiaroscuro lighting, mysterious alleyways, swirling cigarette smoke, unscrupulous criminals, and deeply troubled fairy-tale characters, a full-fledged noir presentation seems like a match made in heaven (or at least the Pudding & Pie).

The striking art direction is only part of the game’s appeal, however. Its greatest achievement might be its extraordinary characters, including the perpetually irritable yet supremely cool Bigby, the resourceful Snow White, the cantankerous Mr. Toad, and a seemingly endless procession of fascinating supporting players. Few games can boast such a memorable cast of characters, and even fewer make their interactions feel so genuinely real (even more impressive considering these are, in fact, mythical figures).

The writing is similarly exceptional. The Wolf Among Us features some of Telltale’s finest dialogue, genuinely difficult decisions, and one of the most shocking plot twists in gaming history. Thankfully, Telltale has elected to leave the original story untouched.

Beyond the audiovisual improvements, the remaster includes more than an hour of bonus content featuring developer commentary, cast interviews, concept art, deleted scenes, and other archival material. For longtime fans, getting a closer look at how this magnificent, twisted fairy tale came to life is surely a tantalizing prospect.

Bigby Wolf’s Long-Awaited Sequel Is Also Coming

Of course, the remaster also provides an excellent opportunity to revisit Fabletown before The Wolf Among Us 2 finally arrives in 2027.

The sequel has endured a famously troubled development cycle, including Telltale’s original closure in 2018, multiple delays, and considerable uncertainty surrounding the project’s future. However, the game resurfaced earlier this year with a new trailer and a confirmed 2027 release window.

As detailed in an interview with sequel director Zak Garriss, the follow-up promises an even darker exploration of Bigby’s troubled psyche as another dangerous mystery unfolds in Fabletown.

The Wolf Among Us Remastered launches October 29 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, with physical editions arriving later this holiday season.
