Frontmezzjunkies reports: The 2026 Off Broadway Alliance Award Nominations Announced
By Ross
Some of my most memorable nights in New York have taken place far from the bright marquees of Broadway, in intimate theatres where the connection between performer and audience grows more intimate with every line. Off-Broadway has long been one of the city’s most vital creative spaces, where bold new voices, inventive productions, and deeply personal storytelling continue to shape the future of the American theatre. The announcement of the 2026 Off Broadway Alliance Awards nominations offers another powerful reminder of the extraordinary artistry thriving throughout this essential community.
Now in its 15th year, the Off Broadway Alliance Awards honour both commercial and non-profit productions that opened during the 2025-2026 season. This year’s nominees reflect the remarkable breadth of work being created across New York, from new musicals such as Beau The Musical, Mexodus, and Night Side Songs to acclaimed plays including Cold War Choir Practice, Kyoto, and The Reservoir. Revival nominees range from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee to Titus Andronicus, while the Unique Theatrical Experience category continues to celebrate the boundary-pushing work that makes Off-Broadway such an exciting and unpredictable artistic home.

Alongside the competitive categories, the organization will recognize several beloved figures whose careers have left an indelible mark on the theatre community. Peter Friedman and Christine Pedi will receive Legend of Off-Broadway Awards for their longstanding contributions to the stage. The late David Gersten, Andy Halliday, and Paul Libin will be inducted into the Off-Broadway Hall of Fame, while Richard Ridge will receive the Friend of Off-Broadway Award for his decades of passionate advocacy and coverage of New York theatre.
Final voting will take place on May 24, with winners announced on May 27 ahead of a June 16 ceremony at Sardi’s, the storied theatrical gathering place in the heart of the New York City theatre district. Whether in a daring new musical, an intimate solo performance, or an unforgettable theatrical experiment, these artists continue to prove that some of the most exciting stories in New York are still being told just beyond Broadway’s brightest lights.
