4 reasons Turo is the easiest side hustle for Vancouver car owners

23 April 20263 Mins Read

Summer is fast approaching — and with the season of sun comes an influx of travellers enjoying vacations, family visits, and exciting events like the World Cup. These travellers need some way of getting around town, and that’s where car owners can engage in the ideal side hustle.

Turo is a platform that allows you to rent out your car whenever you’re not using it. If you own a vehicle that’s just sitting in your driveway, there’s money to be made.

Here are four reasons to consider hosting on Turo to make some extra cash this summer and beyond.

Easy to do

Renting out your car on Turo is super simple and free to do. You can list anything from a truck to a sports car in about ten minutes, set the ground rules, decide when your car is available, and add the daily price. Or you can have Turo automatically adjust your price for maximum earnings.

Once a guest books, you arrange the key to hand off, check them in through the Turo app, and get paid by direct deposit within three days after the trip.

A side hustle that puts you in control

As far as side hustles go, this one is pretty low effort. Of course, you have to manage your listing, but otherwise, the three-step process of listing your car, setting your availability, and earning money is a simple gig economy method. There is even a contactless option so hosts can either choose to meet their renters in person or just communicate through the app

Plus, when a vehicle is on a Turo trip, Turo’s physical damage reimbursement covers the car without the host’s personal auto insurance policy needing to be involved.

So, just how much money can you make as a Turo host? Hosts could earn an average of $700 a month on average with one vehicle, with $4,000 being the typical amount made from June to September.

For 67-year-old Joys from Vancouver, the Ford Fusion she helped her grandson purchase was recently booked for three separate reservations during the tournament. That means the duo is set to earn over $2,500.

Money like that can cover your car payments, take a chunk out of your mortgage, or be put away into a savings account. Whatever you choose, it’s tangible earnings that can make a real difference.

Time is of the essence

Summer is the best time to be a host, with Turo typically seeing a 25 per cent increase in vehicle bookings across Vancouver for June. This number — and your overall earnings — could get even higher, with the 2026 World Cup projected to inject $3.8 billion into Canada’s economy while supporting over 24,000 jobs. Plus, new vehicles on the platform are typically booked within five days of listing, often sooner in high season.

With the World Cup kicking off on June 12, fans are already booking travel and planning transportation. Simply put, the best window to get listed is now. Start earning money by sharing your car on Turo today.
