5 free activities to check out during the Calgary Stampede

The countdown is officially on for the Calgary Stampede, and with the city gearing up for one of the biggest events of the summer, there’s a lot to look forward to. While some attractions require tickets, there are plenty of free activities across the Stampede grounds worth checking out.

Here are five events you can attend for free this year.

If you’re looking for something that will get your adrenaline going, the FMX Show is worth adding to your plans. Throughout the 10 days, world-class freestyle motocross riders will perform flips and tricks that usually leave people with their phones out trying to capture it all.

When: Thursday, July 2 to July 12, 2026
Time: Show times at 10:15 a.m., 12 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Where: Stampede Park (Nutrien Western Event Centre) – 1410 Olympic Way SE, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Free with admission

Calling all animal lovers! This one’s for you. The Dog Bowl is a high-energy canine competition that includes agility courses, frisbee catches and speed challenges. It’s fun to watch and always draws in some seriously big crowds.

When: Thursday, July 2 to July 12, 2026
Time: Show times vary each day
Where: Stampede Park (Community Park South) – 1410 Olympic Way SE, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Free with admission

The Calgary Stampede Showriders are a precision equestrian team known for their synchronized riding and musical performances. You can catch performances throughout the day across the Park, along with evening shows and the Stampede Park Parade.

When: Thursday, July 2 to July 12, 2026
Time: Show times vary each day
Where: Stampede Park (Nutrien Western Event Centre, and GMC Stadium infield) – 1410 Olympic Way SE, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Free with admission

The Coca-Cola stage is one of the main live music hubs at the Calgary Stampede and features a mix of well-known names and emerging artists throughout the festival. This year, you can catch performances from artists like Alessia Cara, Scott Helman, and so many more.

When: Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 12, 2026
Time: Performance times vary
Where: Stampede Park (Coca-Cola Stage) – 1410 Olympic Way SE, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Free with admission

Elbow River Camp offers visitors a chance to experience and learn more about the cultures of the Kainai, Piikani, Siksika, Tsuu’ina, and Stoney Nakoda First Nations of Treaty 7.

Inside the camp, you’ll find traditional tipis, local indigenous artisans showcasing handmade jewelry and artwork, and food like bannock and saskatoon berry jam.

When: Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 12, 2026
Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Stampede Park (ENMAX Park) – 1410 Olympic Way SE, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Free with admission

While the Calgary Stampede is often associated with midway rides, food vendors, and ticketed attractions, there are still plenty of free experiences that bring just as much energy and excitement. It’s pretty easy to keep busy with a full day of activities without spending a dime.
