Picture: Free Bert – Netflix/Counterpart Studios
After a successful debut on Netflix, the streaming service has renewed Free Bert for a second season. Filming will continue in Atlanta, Georgia, which we expect to get underway sometime this year.
Free Bert is a Netflix Original comedy series led by showrunners Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul. Mogel and Paul are also the writers of the series and are two of the eight executive producers. The remaining executive producers are Bert Kreischer, Lilly Burns, Elise Henderson, Tony Hernandez, LeeAnn Kreischer, and Judi Marmel. Counterpart Studios produces the series.
The series stars Bert Kreischer as a fictional version of himself, a stuntman, who is fired from his “Jackss”-type TV show for bad-mouthing the show’s execs on a hot mic. Thanks to the chaos that follows him, his family isn’t happy to see him home, and after trying to help his daughter after she is cyber-bullied, Bert finds himself up against the most powerful family of his daughter’s elite private school.
Free Bert renewed for Season 2
On March 16, Netflix confirmed that Free Bert has been renewed for a second season.
Showrunners Jarrad Paul & Andy Mogel shared a quote about the renewal with Netflix:
“We’re incredibly grateful to Netflix for believing in this show and giving us the chance to continue the freeing of Bert.”
The series was on Netflix’s global top ten list for 2 weeks, reaching 6th place. In total, the series amassed 6.9 million views in the first two weeks.
In our experimental 91 Day Views prediction tool, based on the 6.9 million views in the first two weeks, we estimate that the series can reach anywhere between 12.1 million and 21.3 million views in the first 91 days on Netflix.
*This is an experimental prediction tool. Results are estimates based on historical patterns and should not be taken as definitive.
When compared to other debuting comedy shows, Free Bert is lagging behind the pack. In spite of this, the series debuting with millions of views and reaching the global top ten list was enough for Netflix to renew the show for a second season.
If the series can grow it’s audience in season 2 or at least retain said audience then there’s no reason why the Free Bert can’t return for a third season.
