'Ahead of Its Time' Cady McClain Reflects on the Untimely End of the 'All My Children' Revival

27 March 20262 Mins Read

Daytime Emmy-winner Cady McClain recently took to social media to reflect on the groundbreaking, yet short-lived, 2013 All My Children revival produced by Prospect Park.

McClain reprised her role as Dixie Cooney in Prospect Park’s 2013 revival, which continued the story following the show’s cancellation on ABC. During the run, Dixie supported her son J.R. Chandler (Ryan Bittle) as he recovered from a coma and struggled to avoid returning to his self destructive behavior.

She also faced the return of Billy Clyde Tuggle (Matthew Cowles) and ongoing drama involving her ex-husband Tad Martin (Michael E. Knight).

The series famously ended on an unresolved cliffhanger, leaving the long-awaited reunion of the fan-favorite couple perpetually out of reach, as Jesse Hubbard (Darnell Williams) is seen calling Tad, who declares “I’m on the next flight home.”

In a post on Instagram, McClain shared a throwback photo from the revival writing, “Flashback to Prospect Park’s online ahead of its time version of “All My Children,” when Dixie was all growed up and being all fancy…”

Fans in the comments section lamented the series’ untimely cancellation.

One fan wrote, “Just before streaming really caught on. Oh the possibilities”

A second user wrote, “I actually really enjoyed the AMC reboot. The story for Dixie was picking up and Tad was coming back to Pine Valley🔥”

With a third adding, “ We were so close to a Dixie and Tad reunion 😢”

Since leaving All My Children, McClain remains engrained in the Daytime Soap Opera community. She won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Performer in 2021 for her portrayal of Jennifer Horton Deveraux on Days of Our Lives.

She currently stars as the sophisticated but mysterious Pamela Curtis on the CBS daytime drama Beyond the Gates.

Viewers can watch Beyond the Gates from the beginning on Paramount Plus or on Pluto TV’s dedicated 24/7 Beyond the Gates FAST Channel.

New episodes of Beyond the Gates air weekdays on CBS and stream weeknights on Paramount Plus.
