Ontario boardwalk featuring stunning views of white water rapids opens this month, Canada Reviews

2 April 20262 Mins Read

As the weather warms up in Ontario, a beachy boardwalk is the place to be. But if an old, run-of-the-mill boardwalk doesn’t cut it, there’s one in Niagara that is a true spectacle — and, thanks to an opening date at the end of April, it will be the perfect spring day trip if you live near Toronto.

The Niagara White Water River Walk, just under a two-hour drive from downtown Toronto, offers the scenic walk of your dreams. While there are a slew of activities to undertake in the area, this one might be the most underrated one yet. Located just 4 kilometres from Niagara Falls, the walk allows for visitors to see the Niagara River’s Class 6 white water rapids up close.

Accessible by elevator, the boardwalk by the river is 70 metres down, where you’ll walk through a long, narrow tunnel to reach this natural beauty. There, you’ll find the base of the Niagara Gorge and the iconic boardwalk that stretches the shoreline of the river. You’ll also be able to see the Peace Bridge, connecting the U.S. and Canada sides of Niagara.

Visitors can get really up close and personal by using one of the several viewing platforms just off the boardwalk. Watching the roaring white water rapids go by is a special experience in itself, but the view also includes the 410-million-year-old rock layers of the gorge too. It’s a geological sight to see and marvel at.

This river walk sure has water, and tons of it: trillions of gallons go through this legendary trough, a unique thrill that could make for your next great warm weather escape.

Of course, the area around the Niagara White Water River Walk is known to have some of the region’s most interesting tourist spots. Other than the Niagara Falls, the river walk is close to Whirlpool Aero Car, a cable car that carries passengers over the Niagara Whirlpool.

You can also hang out at The Bird Kingdom — which is the largest indoor aviary in the world, or  take a stroll at nearby Queen Victoria Park, fit with picturesque views of the falls.

The Niagara White Water River Walk opens to the public on April 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 4330 River Rd.

Admission is $21 and tickets to the attraction can be purchased online here.
