More than half of Americans are experiencing fatigue from the constant presence of artificial intelligence in their lives, with a new survey showing that 54% are tired of hearing about AI, despite its widespread use and mixed perceptions.

Survey Reveals Widespread AI Fatigue

A recent survey of 2,000 U.S. adults highlights a growing sense of exhaustion with artificial intelligence. According to the data, 54% of respondents report being tired of hearing about AI. The survey, conducted by Talker Research, indicates that AI has become an inescapable part of daily life for many Americans, with 46% saying it is “everywhere” and nearly impossible to avoid.

A significant portion of participants (29%) feel that AI is being pushed onto them, primarily through social media platforms or workplace requirements. This persistent exposure has led to a sense of fatigue, even as AI continues to be integrated into more aspects of society.

Mixed Attitudes Toward AI

Despite the reported fatigue, attitudes toward AI remain divided. The survey found that 40% of Americans view AI positively, while 30% have a negative perception and another 30% feel neutral. The data also shows that AI use is widespread: 69% of respondents use AI to some degree, with 16% using it daily and 21% using it a few times per week. Others interact with AI less frequently, either a few times per month (12%) or only on rare occasions (20%).

The survey also explored whether AI has met public expectations. Nearly half (48%) believe that AI has only partially lived up to what they were told it could do. Meanwhile, 30% say AI has completely met their expectations, and 17% think it might do so in the future. Only 6% believe AI will never meet expectations.

Desire to Escape AI

With AI use and fatigue both on the rise, some Americans are considering ways to distance themselves from the technology. The survey found that 41% believe they could find a way to “escape” AI if they wanted to. Respondents shared a variety of strategies, ranging from disconnecting from phones and the internet to seeking isolation in remote locations. Some suggested drastic steps, such as destroying personal devices, while others proposed retreating to nature and avoiding digital technology altogether.

Workplace Pressures and AI Fatigue

A 2025 Forbes report highlighted that AI fatigue is becoming common in the workplace. The article attributes this to a combination of organizational pressures, technological complexity, and psychological factors that can make the work environment overwhelming. Many workers are finding it difficult to keep up with the rapid changes and new tools introduced by AI, leading to increased stress and exhaustion.

Siddhant Khare, a software engineer specializing in AI infrastructure, described the paradox of AI as both a productivity tool and a source of exhaustion. He noted that while AI can automate tasks, it often requires users to spend additional time reviewing and editing AI-generated work. The constant need to adapt to new models and tools can also contribute to feelings of being overwhelmed.

Strategies to Manage AI Fatigue

Khare suggested practical approaches to managing AI fatigue. He emphasized the importance of using the time saved by AI for rest, rather than filling it with more work. According to Khare, eliminating natural breaks between tasks can lead to mental overload, as people may feel compelled to stay productive at all times. He cautioned that burnout is more likely when individuals use every free moment for additional tasks instead of allowing themselves downtime.

The survey and related commentary suggest that while AI offers significant benefits, its rapid integration into daily life and work is creating new challenges for Americans, including widespread fatigue and a desire for balance.
