You’ll soon be able to sink your fangs into The Blood of Dawnwalker, the upcoming role-playing game from ex-The Witcher developers. Developer Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment announced Tuesday their upcoming vampire RPG will be released on Sept. 3.
The Blood of Dawnwalker casts players as Coen, a protagonist who’s neither fully human nor fully vampire. It’s set in 14th-century Europe, where the land is ravaged both by wars and by the Black Death, which vampires see as an opportunity. They offer treatment for the disease — in exchange for blood, of course.
Coen has been transformed by them into a Dawnwalker, meaning he can venture out in the sunlight, like Marvel’s Blade (technically a “Daywalker”). He’s out to save his family, but, as this is a choice-based game, his path is ultimately up to you.
Developer Rebel Wolves was founded by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, and it’ll maintain The Witcher’s choice-based-narrative DNA. Like The Witcher series, The Blood of Dawnwalker will blend swordplay and magic with its combat. It’ll also be a hybrid of real-time and turn-based elements, which we compared to Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s combat in our preview from Gamescom last summer.
As The Witcher 4 likely won’t be out until at least next year, The Blood of Dawnwalker will surely help ease the wait for CD Projekt Red’s next Witcher adventure. Its locales look like they would fit right in on The Continent, and Coen even feels a lot like Geralt. We named Rebel Wolves’ debut game one of 2026’s strong Game of the Year contenders.
The Blood of Dawnwalker will be released on Sept. 3, for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The Eclipse Edition of the game will also include a compendium, a soundtrack, and a comic book as digital downloads.
