Amy Schumer Shares Jarring Facts About Her Health Struggles

In a recent post on her Instagram Stories, Amy Schumer detailed some jarring facts about endometriosis, a condition she lived with, which caused “pain that nobody can see.”

“Endometriosis affects 10% of women,” Schumer posted on her story. “Endometriosis can grow onto almost ANY organ in your body. Endometriosis can create its own nerve supply… meaning it quite literally crest pathways for pain. The average diagnosis delay is 7-10 years…these facts are devastating, but this goes to show how much this community deserves time, money and research.”

At the 13th Annual Endometriosis Foundation of America’s Blossom Ball, Schumer detailed her struggle with the disease and said she had 33 impacts from it. She said that “most days of the month [she] was on the floor in pain, vomiting from the pain.”

“My appendix was being choked by endometriosis,” Schumer said at the ball. “I had chocolate cysts, my ovaries, and … it was a miracle that I was able to carry a child.”

Now, Schumer is using her platform to raise money for The Endometriosis Collective. She’s part of the collective’s new documentary, End of the Cycle, and is encouraging her fans to watch the film and donate.

“Endometriosis is painful, isolating, and still so misunderstood — and affects more than 265 million worldwide,” Schumer said in a Reel. “It’s infuriating that conditions like male pattern baldness and erectile dysfunction receive more research funding than endo.”

Schumer’s friends and fans flocked to her comment section, expressing thanks to her for giving a voice to the women who struggle with this disease.
