Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ Reece Weaver Shocks Fans and Retires: Why She Left and What Kelli Finglass Has To Say About It

24 June 20263 Mins Read

Netflix’s hit show, America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, took the already-famous sideline dancers to a totally new level. And while the recent rookies seem to enjoy their newfound fame, it looks like fan favorite Reece Weaver won’t return for another season.

Viewers were surprised, if not shocked, when Weaver hung her uniform on the right.  As we all know by now, DCC’s who plan on staying with the organization place their uniforms on the left—because left has an ‘e’ like ‘yes.’

While fans have enjoyed watching all of the young women go from nervous rookies to confident veterans, Reece has been one cast member who really stood out. The adorably innocent breakout star joined the squad in 2023, making her Netflix debut in Season 1 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders after graduating with a degree in dance from the University of Alabama.

Even though Weaver was only 22 at the time, she married her college beau, Will Allman, in 2024 (two months before her new series premiered). Viewers watched as Weaver and Allman navigated their first few years of marriage together, moving to a new city and starting new jobs. Unlike many other reality TV stars, fame didn’t seem to go to Reece’s head, and the couple thrived in the spotlight.

Why did Reece Weaver leave the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders?

Fast-forward to Season 3, and Reece makes the almost unbelievable decision to leave DCC. Weaver recently told Netflix’s Tudum, “I’d actually been wrestling with this decision since the start of my third year. My cup was just filled to the absolute brim, and I was in a place—I still am in that same place—of sincere gratitude.”

Reece continued, “With a lot of just prayer and counseling, I just felt led, that I was being called to take a leap of faith.”

Of her final conference with director Kelli Finglass and head choreographer Judy Tramell, Weaver said, “I was more worried about how this was going to be taken and received. I didn’t know what their response would be.”

How did Kelli Finglass respond to Reece Weaver leaving DCC?

Finglass recently opened up to Us Weekly, sharing, “I wasn’t shocked, and I wasn’t surprised.” She added, “I am happy for Reece. It’s a tough decision. I think it’s the right decision to make it sooner than too late.”

The DCC’s director also said, “She’s got a bright future, whatever path she chooses. We obviously will miss Reece, like we do every cheerleader that retires after three years, four years, five years.”

What will Reece do next?

The Netflix star has already moved from Dallas back to her former college town in Alabama.  According to Weaver, “There’s been so many brands and organizations that have reached out. I’m really excited to be a little more available for some really cool projects.” As to what those “really cool projects” are, Reece revealed she’s working on a book but didn’t say much more.
