Canada’s first ‘waterway trail’ towns connect 10 charming Ontario destinations

4 July 20262 Mins Read

The Trent-Severn Trail Towns program in Ontario is Canada’s first waterway trail town initiative, and it includes 10 destinations. Lucky for us, it’s just a drive away from Toronto.

According to TSW Trail Towns, in Kawarthas Northumberland, this specific “trail” is a waterway trail, which is technically the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada.

And thanks to the support of Parks Canada, the Trent-Severn Trail Towns program is the first of its kind in all of Canada.

But what makes up this waterway trail? So happy you asked! According to the official site, the Trent-Severn Trail Towns are communities along the Trent-Severn Waterway, connecting each other and “enhancing the visitor experience, making it easier for you to enjoy everything from outdoor activities to local culture and history.”

Trail towns in Ontario

The Trent-Severn Trail Town program includes these other Ontario names:

  • Bobcaygeon
  • Buckhorn
  • Campbellford
  • Coboconk
  • Fenelon Falls
  • Hastings
  • Lakefield
  • Lindsay
  • Peterborough
  • Rosedale

This unique aquatic experience offers visitors the chance to explore towns along the waterway. Whether you’re in it for the scenic views or outdoor fun, this experience is truly summer trip worthy.

“From waterfront restaurants and outdoor patios to hiking trails, ice cream shops, unique shopping boutiques, canoe routes, amazing fishing spots, and photo-worthy nature, each Trail Town offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for those looking to experience the best of what this region has to offer,” adds the site.

The weather is right, and adventure is calling your name. Time to plan a trip out of the city in the summer.
