The ultimate food crawl is hiding inside Union Station — here is everything you need to try, Canada Reviews

7 July 20265 Mins Read

Union Station serves hundreds of thousands of commuters each day, so no surprise it’s one of the best spots to grab a quick breakfast on the go. But the lunch and dinner options are just as tempting, with everything from crispy Chinese-style burgers and bowls of tonkotsu ramen to fried chicken sandwiches and spicy Jamaican patties!

Here are some of the best spots to check out at Union Station the next time you’re passing through.

Sansotei Ramen

A comforting bowl of ramen after a long day? Yes, please. Sansotei Ramen specializes in tonkotsu ramen, made with a rich pork-bone broth. Stick with the classic version, topped with black fungus, egg and green onion, or try the tonkotsu black ramen, which adds fragrant black garlic oil to the mix! Sansotei is open until 8 pm every day, so it’s a great option for lunch or an early dinner.

Union Chicken

Union Chicken

Who knew some of the best fried chicken in the city could be found at Union Station? Union Chicken specializes in fried and rotisserie chicken: think buttermilk-breaded boneless thighs nestled in black pepper gravy and topped with maple honey and hot sauce, or a quarter chicken leg marinated with a special spice blend and served with dipping sauce, pickles and your choice of triple-cooked fries or Southern coleslaw! The restaurant is open until 10 pm Monday through Saturday, and until 8 pm on Sundays.

Kibo Market

Kibo is a Japanese and Korean food spot located in Union Market and is the perfect place for a quick lunch or dinner before catching a train. Grab a salmon teriyaki onigiri, filled with baked salmon, teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayo and crispy fried onions, or pick up the miso salmon bento, which comes with salmon, glass noodles, mixed vegetables and rice. Kibo Market is open until 9:30 pm Monday through Saturday and 9 pm on Sundays.

Bingz Crispy Burger

@bingz_canada

Bingz Crispy Burger is all about roujiamo, a popular Chinese street food made with meat stuffed inside a flaky, crispy bun. It’s something you have to try at least once in your life, as it’s inspired by the “world’s oldest burger” invented 2,000 years ago during the Qin dynasty (so you can literally grab one of the best burgers from around the world right here at Union!).

The signature pork burger is filled with Ontario pork shoulder slow-braised for three hours with 32 spices, or indulge in the cumin chicken burger: it’s made with chicken breast wok-fried with peppers, carrots and whole cumin. Bingz is one of the later options at Union Station, staying open until 10 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:30 pm Friday through Sunday.

Miznon

This wild Mediterranean street food spot is known for stuffing fresh pitas with everything from slow-cooked meats to roasted veggies, making it a definite must for lunch. Try the Rotisserie Broken Chicken, which comes with chicken seared with scallions and za’atar, tahini and spicy sauce, or the Schnitzel with tahini, sweet and spicy matbucha, lemony cabbage and pickles. Or skip the pita altogether and order the restaurant’s whole roasted Baby Cauliflower, simply dressed with olive oil and Atlantic salt. You’ll want to visit early, though. Miznon closes at 6 pm Monday through Friday and 5 pm on weekends.

Patties Express

Patties Express is hard to beat if you’re looking for something more wallet-friendly, but still have a huge appetite. The Jamaican patties come with your choice of ground beef, curry chicken or a spicy vegetarian and vegan filling made with green peas, carrots, red pepper, corn, celery, garlic and onion.

A single patty costs just $2.39, while $5.89 gets you two patties and a pop. If you want something a little more filling, you can tuck a patty into coco bread, or pick up six or 12 patties to take home and share. Bonus: you can choose your spice level for the beef fillings! Patties Express is open until 7:30 pm every day.

Tut’s Egyptian Street Food

Experience a modern twist on traditional Egyptian eats right at Union Station. Tut’s Egyptian Street Food is located in the Foodie Aisle and lets you mix and match different flavours. The fresh-baked small sandwiches are served on fino buns, and you can choose from fillings like fried chicken with pickled cucumbers and spicy mayo, grilled beef sausage with sumac caramelized onions and mustard mint sauce, or fried shrimp with tahini and lime. There are also meat-free options, like fried falafel and fried cauliflower with garlic tomatoes, parsley and tahini! Tut’s closes at 7 pm every day, so it’s perfect for lunch or an early dinner.

Blondies Pizza

Blondies Pizza

Sometimes you just need a slice of pizza before catching a train or heading to a game, and Blondies Pizza has some amazing options! It’s located in the Foodie Aisle near the connection to Scotiabank Arena, and serves both red and “blonde” pizzas topped with some unconventional combos. Try the Cold Drink/Hot Girl, which comes with double pepperoni, jalapeño and honey, or the Sunday Citizen, topped with soppressata, basil, pecorino and honey. The Scarlet Sunrise combines mushrooms, basil, red onion and truffle oil on a blonde sauce base, while the Drake Was Here comes loaded with bacon, pineapple, green pepper and BBQ sauce.

Or just grab a slice of cheese or pepperoni and call it a day.

Still hungry? Check out Union Summer: it runs until Aug 8, and has transformed the plaza outside Union Station into one massive outdoor patio with local food vendors, drinks, live music and more than 120 performances!
