One of the most iconic songwriting voices of the 1980s is the legendary John Mellencamp, who set himself apart from the greater musical trends of the ’80s by making his hits off of stripped back, classic American rock songs.
Following in a similar vain to the ’70s output of Bruce Springsteen, Mellencamp wrote songs capturing the blue collar American experience. He saw massive chart success with hits like “Jack and Diane” and “Hurts So Good,” which made him a unique star of the decade.
Nowadays, Mellencamp is still performing with his signature grit, delighting fans all around with his great live presence. At a recent concert of his, Mellencamp reworked the lyrics of one of his songs to feature some topical political messaging.

Mellencamp used the performance to call out ICE and sing about how you can’t trust them. This falls in line with Mellencamp’s style, which has always been about the common man against the establishment. In similar shades to Springsteen, his musical style is adapting to the times.
Aside from the political rework, Mellencamp was also shocking everyone with how good he’s still sounding. he’s able to hold a stage very well and his voice is carrying its special grit, heightened by the older man that is taking the stage as opposed to his youth.
Fans are loving the current Mellencamp, taking to the comments to share their thoughts and praise of the concert.
“At 74 he’s sounding great and moving well. I hope he gets to do this as long as he wants!”
“I’m so glad he’s going out on his shield, singing most of the hits that for most he hasn’t performed live in 2 decades or longer! Great for the fans!!”
“Love me some Mellencamp!!”
Mellencamp is aging like fine wine, and his concerts are still a rocking time.
