Donna Summer certainly lived up to her name by creating some of the ’70s biggest songs of the summer.
One of her most famous disco anthems, Summer’s hit song “Bad Girls” has been ranked as one of the “Greatest of All Time Songs of the Summer” by Billboard, even more than 40 years after the song was released.
Summer put out the energetic, disco-pop song as part of her April 1979 album of the same name. The title track was released as a single that June, perfectly poised to begin its historic run on the summer charts.
“Bad Girls” was the No. 1 top Song of the Summer for 1979, earning Summer her longest ever chart-topping run on the Billboard Hot 100. The track reigned at No. 1 for five weeks straight between July and August 1979.
And it wasn’t Summer’s only song to dominate the charts that summer, as her other signature hit “Hot Stuff” was the No. 4 top Song of the Summer in 1979, with a three-week run starting in June of that year.
“Hot Stuff” is also included on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Songs of the Summer list, where it’s ranked at No. 131.
