Heritage Day is coming up this Monday in Alberta, which means folks are getting a long weekend to celebrate. We understand you might be wondering what’s open and closed for the long weekend, so we’re here to help you out.

While Heritage Day is not a statutory holiday or general holiday within the province, it is an optional holiday depending on your employer. This holiday honours and celebrates the diverse heritage the province holds, and according to the Government of Alberta, the day was officially recognized in 1974.

Sneaking up this weekend, we’re here to prepare you for the holiday, alongside what’s going to be open and closed on the Monday. Without further ado, let’s get into things.

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate Heritage Day, there’s no better way to do it than by visiting Edmonton’s Heritage Festival.

With over 100 international awards, this Edmonton heritage festival is one of the largest in the world, according to the fest. For this whole long weekend, you can experience three days of this multicultural extravaganza. What better way to celebrate the holiday?
