Hayden Panettiere was found dead inside a luxury apartment complex in Greenville, South Carolina—and one of her neighbors was “shocked” to hear the news.
“I don’t know that she was there long, and I’m not sure she even ever left the apartment,” a tenant at Judson Mill Lofts told Page Six on Monday, Aug. 17. “I can only speak for myself, but you know, I never saw her [and] I haven’t spoken to anyone else that said they have,” the neighbor continued, adding that she believed the apartment was an Airbnb rental.
“The apartment complex has sent out a couple messages saying it wasn’t anything criminal and that there’s no reason for anyone to be scared or anything like that,” the unnamed source continued.
“It’s still kind of jarring to hear that someone of her stature was here and then that tragically happened to her,” the neighbor added. “The coroner vehicle showed up and of course, I knew then that there was a death. Then woke up this morning to hear that it was Hayden, which is just still shocking.”

The neighbor also noted that there were two men who were sitting outside of the apartment with police, noting that they looked like they were in shock.
Panettiere was found dead on Sunday, Aug. 16. According to TMZ, she had flown from Los Angeles “to the south” with her ex, Brian Hickerson. She was reportedly found dead inside the apartment by a “friend” who called 911 claiming that someone had gone into “cardiac arrest” and was “unresponsive.”
An investigation into Panettiere’s cause of death is underway.
