10 awesome things to do in and around Calgary this week (Aug. 24 to 28)

23 August 20265 Mins Read

The last full week of August is here, and there is still plenty of time to get out and enjoy the city before the month comes to an end. We’ve done the digging for you and rounded up 10 things happening around Calgary this week, so you don’t have to spend time searching for something fun to do. From Matt Rife and Nikki Glaser taking over Prince’s Island Park to a vintage night market, GlobalFest, and a pizza-making workshop, there’s a pretty solid mix of events to choose from.

Here are 10 things to check out in Calgary this week.

You may recognize Sarper Güven from the reality TV show 90 Day Fiancé, and now you can see him live at The Laugh Shop for a 90-minute stand-up show. His set features all-new, original material about relationships, marriage and the chaos of everyday life.

Time: 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Where: The Laugh Shop – 5940 Blackfoot Trl. SE, Calgary, Alta.

Head over to the Regal Cat Cafe and treat yourself to a 75-minute sound bath and Yin meditation. The session will include crystal singing bowls, a gong, and gentle floor-based Yin poses, all while you’re surrounded by cats.

Head to Nickle Galleries for a free night of art, history and a closer look at some of the exhibitions on display. Throughout the evening, you can meet curators, ask questions, take an informal tour or browse the gift shop. There’s also a chance to explore how Napoleon used coins, medals and art to build an empire, see works by Katie Ohe, Christiane Pflug and Marion Nicoll, and meet the graduating MFA students.

When: Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026
Time: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Nickle Galleries – 410 University Ct. NW, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Free

A little shopping and a classic movie make for a pretty solid Wednesday night. Head to The Corner Lot on Aug. 26 to browse local vintage and thrift vendors, then stick around for an outdoor screening of The Princess Bride.

When: Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026
Time: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: 1626 Centre St. N., Calgary, Alta

GlobalFest is bringing four nights of international culture, live performances, food vendors and fireworks to Spruce Meadows. Each night will have a different cultural theme, with Japan, Mexico and Italy taking over the first three nights before the Global Finale on Sunday. You’ll also be able to see Alberta’s largest drone show, featuring more than 600 drones lighting up the sky.
