5 essential style lessons we’ve learned from ‘Heated Rivalry’ star Hudson Williams, Canada Reviews

11 September 20263 Mins Read

Ever since Hudson Williams skyrocketed to fame last year thanks to the obsession over Heated Rivalry, he and his co-star Connor Storrie have been repeatedly going viral and setting trends. And Williams seems to have the magic touch when it comes to fashion trends, frequently selling out the clothing items and accessories he’s been spotted wearing (including, incidentally, Canadian Tire tote bags). Whether he’s walking the red carpet at the Oscars or strolling the streets of Toronto while filming season two of Heated Rivalry, there are plenty of style cues we can take from him. Here are five fashion lessons we’re learning from the Canadian superstar.

Sheer goes with everything

Williams and Storrie went viral for their accidental Oscars after party matching sheer moment, in which Williams donned a draped, sheer black sleeveless top with a full train. But the B.C. actor doesn’t just opt for sheer pieces at A-list events; he’s often gone a little see-through for regular, everyday wear as well. He was recently spotted at Toronto’s airport wearing a mesh jersey. Even a simple white T-shirt gets the sheer treatment! This trend is an easy way to embed a little bit of flair into an otherwise basic outfit. If showing off a hockey bod isn’t your main style goal, try a sheer shirt layered underneath a vest or dress. You can also opt for a sheer overlay.

Monochrome is always a good idea

Another Hudson Williams classic: monochrome looks are his go-to for event dressing, including an all-white look he wore to Gold House’s Lunar New Year celebration (even the scarf was in on the monochrome action). And most recently, it was his brown-on-brown oversized suit at Paris Fashion Week that was turning heads. The style lesson here is simple: when in doubt, just go all one colour! All-black is a fashion favourite for a reason, but you can even apply this to statement hues. Opting for the same colour, or different shades in the same colour family, can make bold colour choices feel a little safer.

Don’t forget the dad sneakers

You can get a real sense of a celebrity’s style by seeing how they dress on days off. And Williams’ go-to for travel days, vacations and strolling around Toronto practically arm-in-arm with his on-screen love interest is often a dad sneaker. Think chunky and elevated — the nerdier the better. These shoes go well with streetwear and can help add a bit of contrast to an everyday jeans-and-a-T-shirt outfit.

You can’t go wrong with a baseball cap

Another style staple for Williams seems to be the humble baseball cap — so much so that he and Storrie sported coordinating ones multiple times while they roamed Toronto. He’s almost always wearing one while travelling, a choice we can all learn from if we want to hide our airplane hair, and he’ll even wear them at the gym. He even has a few caps he seems to share with Storrie!

A crossbody for every occasion

This is a style staple Williams seems to share with Storrie: everywhere he goes, the Canadian star is pretty much always carrying a crossbody. Whether it’s a Gen Z or a millennial trend, it doesn’t seem to matter to Williams — he’s bringing it everywhere. Let this be a style lesson to us all: practicality comes first. And a hands free walk thanks to a crossbody bag is pretty practical!
