Plenty of strange and funny things happen on the TTC, from singing operators to underground parties. Now, there’s something new coming to the subway that might be just as surprising: prepare to see “SubwayTakes” host Kareem Rahma sitting down with famous and not-so-famous locals, trying to get them to drop their hottest, most controversial takes.
The YouTube series, which has garnered 1.18 million subscribers and 2.3 million followers on Instagram, has previously always filmed on the New York City subway. Rahma has sat down with everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Charlize Theron to (sort of) regular New Yorkers, wielding a MetroCard as a mic, and asked them for their hot take of the day. They can range from silly (“Parents have a favourite kid.”) to serious (“Not hurting people’s feelings should not be the basis for morality.”), but mostly they’re just hilarious.
Now, he’s bringing the show to the TTC, titling it “SubwayTakes Toronto,” and you can expect “iconic Canadian guests” to make an appearance each episode.
The series is part of a new slate of YouTube Canada content; other shows include “Iron Chef Dad vs. The Internet”, hosted by Susur Lee and his son Jet Bent-Lee, Matty Matheson chasing his rural Ontario farm dreams in “Matty’s Farm,” a podcast series hosted by Tessa Virtue titled “Virtuoso” and “Sarah’s Side Quests” with Sarah Nurse.
Rahma told CP24 there will be 15 episodes in the series. Not many other details are known about the Toronto spinoff just yet, but we’re guessing we know one thing: they’ll be holding Presto cards as mics!
