Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave‘s paralogues operate on strict deadlines, and they can be very easy to miss. However, they’re among the most important optional quests you can take on. Paralogues are how you get certain plot-important characters to join your team later, and if you don’t have time or don’t want to play multiple routes, you can also use paralogues to get the three other Flame Lords to join you in Part 3, albeit in a limited capacity.
Below, we list all paralogues in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and explain how they work and when you may — or may not — want to complete them.
Should you complete or skip paralogues in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave?
The answer to that question depends on whose path you’re playing, who you want in the endgame, whether you have time for multiple paths — or just how broke you are. Paralogues reward you with 20,000 gold each, so if you’ve spent all your gold bribing people with food and gift items, they’re a solid way to get some cash back in your pocket.
Anyway, here’s how Fortune’s Weave‘s paralogues work. Every Flame Lord, including the non-playable ones (that’s Bertrand, Anatolia, Talimun, and Orchel), has a paralogue, and Anna does as well. Completing a Flame Lord’s paralogue ensures they join your team in Part 3, though there is a caveat to note here. If you complete Leda’s, Dietrich’s, Cai’s, or Theodora’s paralogues, they join in Part 3 as guests only. You have no control over their class, leveling, or inventory. When you complete Talimun’s, Orchel’s, Bertrand’s, or Anatolia’s paralogues, they join in Part 3 as full-fledged members whose classes you can change and so on, not just as guests.
You only need to complete their paralogues on one Flame Lord’s path, clear that path, and clear the War Arc as that Flame Lord, for the respective character to turn up in Part 3. For example, if you’re playing as Leda and complete Cai’s paralogue, then you go play Dietrich’s route, you can skip Cai’s paralogue as Dietrich without suffering any penalties (minus not getting all that gold).
So, complete paralogues if you:
- Want that character in Part 3, but don’t plan on playing their full route
- Want to check out extra maps and objectives
- Need gold
- Want the partner character of that paralogue’s star (e.g. Ursula is recruitable after clearing Talimun’s paralogue, Sha Lan after Anatolia’s, and so on)
And skip paralogues if you:
- Completed them on other routes and don’t need the gold
- Really just don’t like that character and never want to see them again

The other caveat is that not every paralogue is available on every route, with one exception. Availability is based on story. For example, the way Cai’s route unfolds means that certain problems end up with alternative solutions that don’t require the direct intervention of a paralogue. That’s nice for them, but less so for you if you want them in your Part 3 party. Dietrich is the exception here, also for story reasons. You can play every paralogue on his route (except his own, of course).
Dietrich comes with yet another very big asterisk. Completing Bertrand’s paralogue is the only way to recruit Peppe in Dietrich’s route and the only way to get Gaitz period, as the latter isn’t recruitable on any other path. However, in Dietrich’s route, Bertrand’s paralogue is only available for one day, 9/17 at 9 p.m. That leaves you just five turns before the main story deadline, and it’s one of those hard deadlines that results in a game over screen if you miss it. Make sure you’ve done everything you need to prep for the main quest and are ready to set out via Mars’ Gate of the Gods before tackling Bertrand’s paralogue as Dietrich.
Theodora also has a pretty big exception. While the game lists certain quest end dates past 10/24, Theodora’s final chapter ends on 10/24. You’ll need to complete all paralogues, preparation, and outstanding subquests before 10/24.
