Mississauga-raised actor Simu Liu has married longtime partner Allison Hsu, with the couple tying the knot in France over the weekend after nearly four years together!
Details about the ceremony are still under wraps, including exactly where in France the couple said “I do,” but the location brings their love story somewhat full circle. Liu proposed to Hsu in Paris in May 2025, popping the question against an Eiffel Tower backdrop before the pair announced their engagement on Instagram.
And the lead-up to the wedding had an Ontario connection. This summer, Liu held his bachelor celebrations in Muskoka (he apparently has a go-to idyllic spot on Goshulak Island), where he spent time jet skiing and swimming with friends before breaking away from the festivities to promote his ARC World cultural festival in Markham.
Hsu, 30, also shared bachelorette pics on Insta! She works in digital marketing at Interscope Records and was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in music in 2022. She and Liu first went public with their relationship in November 2022 before making their red carpet debut together later that month.
For Toronto, Liu has always been something of a hometown celeb. The 37-year-old was born in Harbin, China, but moved to Canada as a child and grew up in Mississauga and Etobicoke before eventually launching his acting career in Toronto. He made history as the star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings but many don’t know that his breakout role came as Jung on the Toronto-set CBC sitcom Kim’s Convenience!
And as much of a mega-star he is now, he’s hardly left his GTA roots behind, especially when it comes to food (he swears by Aburi Hana in Yorkville). Earlier this year, he was also back in town promoting his spy thriller The Copenhagen Test, and told Streets of Toronto that it “was just a really cool full-circle moment for me to go back home.”
As for married life, it comes just as Liu enters another major chapter professionally. He’s set to return as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday.
And love must be in the air, because another major Toronto-Hollywood success story star is officially off the market, too!
