What was once something Amanda Seyfried eagerly looked forward to in her projects has now become an unwanted addition that she steers away from.
On Oct. 4, during a panel hosted by Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons International Film Festival in East Hampton, N.Y., The Housemaid star opened up about how her feelings towards sex scenes have evolved over the years.
“Our jobs are weird,” Seyfried told Baldwin, per People. “And as I get older, it gets weirder. We have to be romantic with people that we’re not romantic with. Sometimes it’s great. Sometimes it’s really uncomfortable. But I can’t believe back in the day I was just like, ‘We gotta make out. Great! This is awesome. I know how to make out.’”
The 40-year-old actress, who has starred in her fair share of romantic roles, revealed she actually used to think sex scenes were “so fun.” The idea of getting paid to “make out with a hot person” felt like a work bonus perk.
But at this point in her life, the idea of doing a sex scene is something she wants nothing to do with. In fact, she’s even turned down projects because of it.
“I passed on a show where I would have to have sex all the time because of the sex,” the Golden Globe winner added. “Doesn’t matter [who it’s with], I don’t wanna do it. I’m uncomfortable with it. I’m not into it right now. Maybe if [the project] came along again [at a later point], maybe I’d be in a different space. But I don’t wanna deal with being naked with a stranger.”

Seyfried noted that being a mother has also played a part in her decision-making. She shares two children under the age of 10 with her estranged husband, Thomas Sadoski. Seyfried mentioned that as her kids get older, they’re starting to pay more attention to the things she does.
“And so I have to be less of a pushover. The other day — this is so silly — but Nina, my daughter, and I were walking across the street [in Manhattan], and a person on our side of the street asked for a picture, and I looked at my daughter, and I said, ‘No, I’m sorry.’ And then we walked across the street, and I was like, ‘How was that for you, Nina? Was that okay?’”
“She’s like, ‘I’m very proud of you, mama,’” Seyfried recalled.

She admitted that hearing her daughter tell her she’s proud of her for saying no made her reevaluate how often she’s agreed to things she didn’t want to do. Seyfried now has a rule that whenever she’s with her children, she denies all requests because quality time with them is more important.
“And then we go to the coffee shop, and the coffee shop barista was like, ‘Can I have a picture?’ And I was like, ‘No, I’ll come back later.’ My daughter was like, ‘I’m so proud of you for saying no.’ And I was like, ‘What the f–k? She shouldn’t be saying this to me. I should be saying no.'”

It’s great to see celebrities creating more boundaries for their safety and well-being, because despite what many people may believe, these celebrities did not sign up for a lot of the things they’re subjected to.
