5 local Calgary costume shops where you can find your next Halloween look

16 October 20263 Mins Read

The countdown to Halloween is on, and if you haven’t settled on a costume yet, now is a good time to start looking. Calgary has several costume shops where you can find everything from full outfits and wigs to masks, props, and makeup to finish off your look. Some stores even offer rentals, so you don’t have to buy everything outright.

Here are five local shops to check out when planning your Halloween costume this year.

The Costume Shoppe is a family-owned store with over 15,000 costumes and more than 5,000 accessories to choose from. Throughout the store, you’ll find ready-to-wear costumes, makeup, masks, and cosplay supplies. If you only plan to wear the costume once, the shop also offers rental options.

Where: 4307 Blackfoot Trl. SE, Calgary, Alta.

Don’s Costume and Make Up Shoppe has been part of Calgary since 1949 and now specializes in costumes, theatrical makeup, and special-effects supplies. Its collection includes over 20,000 professional-grade pieces. It’s a great spot to check out if you’re planning a horror costume and need any special-effects makeup.

Where: 1515 Centre St. NW, Calgary, Alta.

Looking for a costume inspired by your favourite character? Canuck Amusements carries a wide range of Halloween outfits for adults and kids, plus accessories like wigs, masks, capes, and hats. The store also carries a large selection of party supplies if you’re planning to add some seasonal touches to your space.

Where: 3911 37th St. SW, Calgary, Alta.

If you’re planning a medieval or fantasy-inspired costume, head over to Dark Age Creations in southeast Calgary. The shop specializes in armour, cloaks, and other unique costume pieces, with options for anyone putting together a knight, warrior, or historical character look.

Where: 509 42nd Ave. SE, Calgary, Alta.

Located inside the Crossroads Market, Red Moon Curios carries a selection of masks, accessories, and alternative fashion pieces to help you put a Halloween costume together. Throughout the booth, you can browse distinctive pieces that you won’t typically find in a standard costume shop

Where: Crossroads Market — 1235 26th Ave. SE, Calgary, Alta. (Booth 222)

So before you order a costume online, it might be worth seeing what these local Calgary shops have on their shelves.
