More Than 1.5 Million Pounds of Meat Recalled Nationwide Over Health Concerns

20 October 20263 Mins Read

A nationwide recall has been initiated involving more than 1.5 million pounds of meat and poultry products after Kayem Foods identified a possible food safety problem with items that had been stored at incorrect temperatures.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) declared the Class I recall on Saturday, October 17, stating that eating the recalled products could result in serious health consequences.

The recall involves about 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that were made between March 31 and October 7, 2026. These products were sold in retail stores and food service establishments in various parts of the United States and in Hong Kong.

The products involved are hot dogs, bacon, sausages, ham, brisket, and other ready-to-eat meat and poultry items available under different brands. People can go to the official FSIS website to obtain the full list of products, together with the UPCs and labels. The products involved in the recall have one of three establishment numbers in the USDA inspection mark: M/P 7839, P 20935A, or M 9520.

The recall is in the USDA’s Class I category, which is the one representing the highest level of risk. The agency has not, to date, confirmed any illnesses linked to the products in question in its statement made on October 17.

People who have bought items that may have been affected should not eat them; the FSIS recommends that the products be thrown away or sent back to the place where they were purchased.

The matter was first discovered on October 1, when a retail customer sent in a complaint concerning products that had arrived at an unexpectedly high temperature. A later investigation discovered that the warehouse cooler, which was used for storing a variety of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products, had suffered temperature fluctuations.

On October 16, Kayem Foods declared a voluntary recall and stated that it was cooperating with the USDA. The company also mentioned that it was getting in touch with its wholesale and retail customers in order to assist them in identifying and removing the implicated products.

“Our business depends on providing consumers with safe food of the highest quality. Out of an abundance of caution, we are undertaking this voluntary recall. We take food safety very seriously and apologize to our valued consumers. Our management team takes full responsibility. We have learned from and corrected the issue and will not allow this to happen again,” Kayem Foods President and CEO Matt Monkiewicz said in a statement posted on the company’s website.

Meanwhile, on October 17, the FSIS made a public announcement regarding the recall, naming the products in question and cautioning consumers about the possible health risk.

If you have any questions, you can reach Kayem Foods’ customer service either by calling 800-426-6100 or by emailing info@kayem.com.
