A topping-out ceremony marked the placement of the highest structural beam at Signia Hilton Savannah, a 444-room hotel being developed as the Savannah Convention Center’s headquarters hotel.
The hotel will connect directly to the Savannah Convention Center. It is owned by the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority and is being developed in partnership with the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. Hilton will manage the property, while Songy Highroads and Matthews Southwest Hospitality are co-developers.
More than 1,200 individual workers have contributed to the project, with more than 300 workers on-site daily. Construction crews have poured more than 27,000 cubic yards of concrete, installed 2,700 tons of reinforcing steel and 194 tons of post-tension cable, and completed 1,135 auger piles totaling more than 81,000 linear feet of deep foundations.
The hotel will include more than 34,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including a 13,000-square-foot ballroom. Planned amenities include Club Signia, an outdoor pool and five food-and-beverage venues.
The property’s culinary program is being developed with Savannah-based Grey Spaces, led by Chef Mashama Bailey and restaurateur Johno Morisano.
The hotel and expanded Savannah Convention Center are intended to form an integrated convention campus. The convention center’s expansion, completed in 2025, includes 660,000 square feet of meeting, exhibit and event space, including 200,000 square feet of exhibit space, two ballrooms, 27 meeting rooms, five executive boardrooms, a 367-seat auditorium, outdoor event venues and a 900-space parking garage.
During the ceremony, project partners, elected officials and community leaders participated in a ceremonial beam signing. Participants included Kelvin Moore of the Savannah Convention Center; Chester A. Ellis of the Chatham County Commission; John Parkinson of Hilton; Mayor Van R. Johnson II; Mark Smith of the Savannah-Georgia Convention Center Authority; Rep. Ron Stephens; David Songy of Songy Highroads; and Joseph Marinelli of Visit Savannah.
