‘Watermelon Bookings High’: Sydney and Melbourne Hotels Enjoy Bookings Boost From Harry Styles Fans

The Australian leg of Harry Styles’ ‘Together, Together’ world tour pushed hotel bookings in One Direction: up!

The world’s leading hotel commerce platform, SiteMinder, has analysed bookings data from hotels across Melbourne and Sydney to find out how much hotel demand has been driven up around the British crooner’s concert dates – and when exactly those surges occurred.

Styles announced his tour dates on 23 January, initially bestowing Australia with four dates across Melbourne and Sydney in November and December. Even though tickets weren’t yet on sale, SiteMinder’s data has revealed this was the single biggest hotel booking day of the entire tracking period – more rooms for Melbourne’s late-November concert nights were reserved on the announcement day than on any other day since the dates came to market.

On each of the pre-sale and general sale days in January, hotel bookings for the concert nights ran about 100–150 times a normal day’s volume.

With Styles now set to rock Australia with six shows, Melbourne and Sydney hotel bookings across the tour dates have risen by up to 30% compared to the same period last year. Hotels are enjoying a revenue boost with room rates up to 25% higher year-on-year; Sydney hoteliers received the biggest bump, with rates jumping $127 per night between 2025 and 2026, while Melbourne rates saw a $36 per night bump.

Concert-goers are also planning further ahead for shorter stays, booking accommodation about five to six weeks sooner than for the equivalent dates in 2025, with stay length cut down by up to 10% compared with the same period, consistent with concert-centred trips.

“Harry Styles might be a once-in-generation superstar, but event-driven hotel bookings are not a unique phenomenon,” Bradley Haines, SiteMinder’s Market Vice President, APAC, says.

“This event serves as a reminder that hotels need to be dynamic in their approach to revenue management – or risk missing out on critical revenue.

“Having the right strategies and software in place to immediately detect and capitalise on sudden demand shifts is essential.”
