Miley Cyrus told Awkwafina that they have very similar voices.
In a recent interview with Brut, the 38-year-old actress, born Nora Lum, spoke about her unique voice.
The interviewer asked her, “You have a really cool voice. How would you describe it?”
“You know it’s a contentious; that’s a contentious opinion. Growing up, not a lot of people thought it was cool,” Awkwafina recalled.
She looked back at a time as a kid when people would have strange reactions to her voice.
“I was just telling them when I was like seven, I’d answer the phone, and people would be like, ‘What was that?’ They couldn’t tell if I was like an old man or what,” she continued.
The interviewer shared that she thinks the actress “sounds like Miley Cyrus.”
The Crazy Rich Asians star told a story of when she met the pop star.
“She actually told me that. She was like, ‘You know, we sound alike, right?’ And I was like, ‘I would love to sound like you.'”
Awkwafina appeared in the interview with Jake Johnson, with whom she is co-starring in the new stop-motion animated film Wildwood.
Johnson ended the interview telling her, “I think you’ve got a great voice.”
Wildwood is now in theaters.
