Tiger Woods founded a junior golf clinic in 1996 with his father Earl for inner-city kids; the foundation has since raised more than $50 million for education

Tiger Woods’ charitable work is reaching a major milestone as the TGR Foundation celebrates 30 years of helping young people through education.

The announcement came during the foundation’s 30th-anniversary celebration, titled “RED: Celebrating Legacy,” held in January 2026. The event recognized three decades of efforts to help students from underserved communities gain access to education and opportunities for their future.

Woods, a World Golf Hall of Famer and one of golf’s most successful players, founded the organization with his father, Earl Woods, in 1996. What began with golf clinics for children has grown into an educational initiative that helps young people discover their interests, develop skills and prepare for college and careers.

According to ESPN, the foundation’s work has reached more than 217,000 students through its programs. Its mission is to help young people pursue their passions through education, especially those who face barriers to learning and opportunity.

Blank’s $20 million commitment, made through the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, will help develop the TGR Learning Lab in Atlanta. The facility is intended to expand the organization’s educational reach and bring its programs to more students.

In a statement released during the anniversary celebration, Woods said, “Tonight was a reminder that the legacy I’m most proud of isn’t on the golf course; it’s the work we’ve done to positively impact the lives of students through TGR Foundation.”

He added, “I am excited for what’s next as we expand alongside our great supporters to reach more young people from communities in need.”

The story began in November 1996, when Woods and his father launched the Tiger Woods Foundation to help children in the United States through after-school programs, scholarships and golf-related activities.

At the time, Woods was beginning his professional golf career. His success on the course would soon make him one of the most recognized athletes in the world, but his charitable organization also gave him a way to support children who might not otherwise have access to similar opportunities.

The foundation initially organized golf clinics around the country, introducing children to the sport and providing opportunities to learn. Earl Woods played an important role in the organization’s beginnings, helping establish a mission that connected his son’s love of golf with the needs of young people.

The organization later expanded its focus toward education. After the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the foundation shifted more of its attention toward educational programs, developing a broader approach to helping students succeed.

In 2016, Woods brought his charitable and business ventures under the TGR name. The foundation became known as the TGR Foundation, reflecting the wider scope of its work beyond golf.

A key part of the foundation’s growth has been the development of TGR Learning Labs, educational facilities where students can explore subjects and build new skills.

The first learning lab opened in Anaheim, California, near Woods’ hometown. Other locations have expanded the program’s reach, including facilities in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Atlanta is the next major addition announced as part of the foundation’s expansion, while a learning lab in Augusta, Georgia, has also been planned.

The learning labs provide students with access to educational experiences that may be difficult to find in their schools or communities. Activities involving technology, coding and hands-on projects allow students to learn by trying new things and solving problems.

The foundation’s Earl Woods Scholar Program also supports students pursuing higher education. Named after Woods’ father, who died in 2006, the program is part of the organization’s effort to help students continue their education and work toward long-term goals.

Blank praised Woods’ leadership and the foundation’s work in a statement announcing his contribution.

“I have immense respect and admiration for Tiger, not only for his legendary career, but for the way he continues to lead with purpose off the course,” Blank said.

He also pointed to the foundation’s learning labs and the students reached through its programs as reasons for his support. He said he looked forward to seeing the impact of the Atlanta facility on the local community.

The donation will help the foundation develop its educational programs and extend its reach into more communities where students need additional support.

The anniversary celebration also marked an important point in the organization’s development. After three decades, the foundation continues to build on the idea that opportunities in education can help young people pursue their ambitions.
