The Amazing Race 39 so far has been a season of alliances, both made and broken. Some of those bonds were put to the test on this week’s episode, as the Intersection Twist showed up turning the teams of two into four temporarily. But the most dramatic is what to come, as after another race to the Pit Stop, the episode ended on a juicy cliffhanger, with Phil Keoghan revealing a live double U-Turn Vote, leaving everyone’s fates in the hands of the other teams.

Who was eliminated on The Amazing Race 39 tonight?
Nobody!
While Doug and Dylan Matter finished in last place in this week’s episode, Phil told them that this was a non-elimination leg, and their race was still alive. The host did say the grandfather/grandson team would be given a penalty next leg. And, based on what we experienced last season, it’s assumed that they’ll be given an automatic vote against them at the U-Turn vote next week.
Which teams finished at the top of The Amazing Race 39 tonight?
Michelle Rozalski Patterson and Matt Patterson continued their absolute dominance of the season in this week’s episode. The two were able to threepeat first-place finishes, something that puts them in the rarified air of Amazing Race teams. But the married parents were also able to pull off some sneaky strategy along the way, from looping back to the Pit Stop to get Daisha Wilks and Dalton Hamby to partner up with them to then purposely charging ahead from them to use their Express Pass without their lie being exposed. Speaking of Daisha and Dalton, they finished in second place for the second week in a row. And Conner Wilson and Garrett McGuire came in third yet again, after using their own Express Pass at the last possible opportunity.

Which teams finished at the bottom of The Amazing Race 39 tonight?
As mentioned above, Doug and Dylan pulled up to the Pit Stop in last this episode. The two were unfortunately left out of the pick for partners at the Intersection, forcing them in a tie for last place. Then their navigational difficulties got the best of them, as they walked right past the Detour. Finishing above them were the self-proclaimed “Boss Ladies Alliance” in Ann-Marie Tejcek and Riley Tejcek and Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman. The final two all-women teams decided to work together this leg even outside of the Intersection. And it was that collaborative effort that got them through the struggles of hatmaking, allowing them to escape last place.
Intersection strategy…and U-Turn Vote drama
This week’s episode saw the return of a twist seen only a few times on The Amazing Race: The Intersection. For the Roadblock, the teams were forced to partner up with one another, essentially running the dance task as a duo. Here’s how the teams ended up intersecting:
- Michelle/Matt and Daisha/Dalton
- Anuar/Andrea and Conner/Garrett
- Ali/Joanna and Ann-Marie/Riley
- Doug/Dylan and Erin/Javi
But we’re not done with twists just yet! Surprisingly, this week’s episode actually kicked off the next leg, as the teams flew from Albania to Sri Lanka. There, they were greeted by Phil, who told the cast that they would be participating in a live double U-Turn vote. For the uninitiated, this means that every team will vote for two teams they wish to U-turn (i.e., make them perform both sides of the Detour that leg). The two teams that receive the most votes across the entire cast start the leg being U-Turned.
So who’s most in danger? While a U-Turn vote is rare, we’ve usually seen the biggest threats of the race get targeted first and foremost. And you’d be hard-pressed to find a bigger threat than Michelle and Matt, who are just coming off their third first-place finish. Not only that, but some teams may be looking for revenge after the married parents’ decisions at the double Driver’s Seat last week. Speaking of revenge, it’s clear that Ann-Marie and Riley are looking to get some on Daisha and Dalton after the latter left them high and dry after the mother/daughter team gave them help. We saw them start to spread word of what the two had done, and it’s becoming clear that the small town sweethearts can’t be trusted. If we were to guess right now who will have their smiling faces on the most U-turn boards at the beginning of next episode, you can lock in Michelle/Matt and Daisha/Dalton.
