One of the world’s leading wine producers, Argentina is well-known for its high-quality, affordable wines, as well as a growing range of fine wine labels. It ranked sixth worldwide in wine production in 2025, according to the International Organization of Wine and Vine, with the mountainous Mendoza region at the heart of its grape and wine industry.

Mendoza accounts for 75-per-cent of Argentina’s vineyards and is home to more wineries than any other province in the country. While malbec remains its most successful export, winemakers have access to more than 20 different grape varieties, including bonarda, cabernet sauvignon and syrah for red varieties and sémillon, chardonnay and pinot grigio for whites. Here are five well-priced wines from Mendoza to enjoy now.

Finca Sophenia Altosur Malbec 2024 (Argentina), $15.95

Rating: 90

Produced from an organic vineyard in the high-altitude Gualtallary region of Mendoza’s Uco Valley, Altosur Malbec is a juicy, ripe red that offers a mix of pure cherry and blackberry flavours with wet stone, spice and lavender. Its full-bodied style is nicely concentrated and refreshing, with a lingering finish. This has 14.2-per-cent ABV and 4 g/litre r.s. Vegan friendly. Drink now to 2028. Available at the above price in Ontario, $22.99 in British Columbia, various prices in Alberta.

La Linda Private Selection Old Vines Malbec 2024 (Argentina), $17

Rating: 89

The La Linda label is produced by Luigi Bosca, a family-run winery established in Lujan de Cuyo in 1901. The Old Vines reserve is produced from vines that are 30 years or older, with a portion of the blend aged in American oak barrels for eight months for added concentration and complexity. The finished, full-bodied wine offers a satisfying mix of dark fruit and mocha with more stuffing and length than the value priced La Linda Malbec reviewed below. This has 13.5-per-cent ABV and 3 g/litre r.s. Drink now to 2029. Available at the above price in Ontario ($15 until Nov. 8), $24.99 in B.C., ($19.99 until Nov. 21), $17.90 in Quebec.

La Linda Malbec 2025 (Argentina), $14.95

Rating: 87

This affordable malbec is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks and concrete vats to preserve its freshness and fruity flavours. The easy-to-appreciate style is based on a core of ripe black cherries with some spice and floral notes, with a soft texture and decent finish. This has 13-per-cent ABV and 3 g/litre r.s. Drink now. Available in Ontario.

La Mascota Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 (Argentina), $17.95

Rating: 89

La Mascota continues to be one of the best value cabernets in the country. A retaste of the 2024 vintage confirms its classic character based on plummy, berry and herbal flavours, with cedar and spice notes adding complexity. Its robust character includes nicely integrated, fine-grained tannins and a lingering finish. This has 14-per-cent ABV and 4 g/litre r.s. Drink now to 2030. Available at the above price in Ontario, $18.99 in B.C. and Manitoba, various prices in Alberta, $18.05 in Quebec, $20 in New Brunswick, $19.99 in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, $19.98 in Newfoundland.

Lurton Piedra Negra Pinot Grigio Organic 2025 (Argentina), $16.95

Rating: 89

Bodega Piedra Negra was established by French winemaker François Lurton in the Los Chacayes region of Mendoza’s Uco Valley in 1996. The vineyard has been farmed organically since 2016 and remains the country’s largest producer of pinot gris, a grape variety introduced to Argentina by Lurton. The 2025 vintage is an appealingly fresh and flavourful expression of pinot grigio with a mouth-watering character thanks to its mix of green apple, citrus and spice flavours. This has 13-per-cent ABV and 2 g/litre r.s. Drink now. Available at the above price in Ontario, $17.85 in Quebec, $21.49 in New Brunswick, $19.99 in Nova Scotia and PEI, $20.73 in Newfoundland.
