It’s been nearly a year since Stranger Things wrapped up its five-season run on Netflix, but a new sighting of two of the show’s stars has fans wondering whether the story is really over.
Finn Wolfhard and Caleb McLaughlin, who played Mike Wheeler and Lucas Sinclair on the hit series, were reportedly spotted filming together in Chicago on Nov. 2, and footage of the mysterious project is fueling speculation about a possible Stranger Things return.
According to GamesRadar, a roughly 20-second video circulating on social media shows the actors walking down a street before suddenly stopping and staring at something in front of them.
The footage was shared by the X account Stranger Things Updates, although it’s unclear exactly what the two actors were filming.

For some fans, the sighting has brought back a theory that gained attention following the show’s December 2025 finale.
Known as “Conformity Gate,” the theory suggests that the series finale wasn’t the real ending at all. Instead, some viewers speculated that the events of the finale were an illusion created by Vecna, the show’s supernatural villain, and that Netflix was secretly planning to release another episode.
Netflix previously pushed back against that speculation, emphasizing on the show’s official social media accounts that all episodes were available to watch.
But seeing Wolfhard and McLaughlin together again has reignited some of those hopes.
One fan reacted to the new footage by asking, “Looking for El?”
Another wrote, “The real Stranger Things ending.”
Of course, there are plenty of other possible explanations for the actors’ mysterious project.
Some fans believe they could be filming promotional material related to the Stranger Things franchise, while others have suggested a commercial or another unrelated production.
The timing is interesting, considering that Nov. 6 marks Stranger Things Day, the annual celebration commemorating the date Will Byers disappeared in the show’s fictional timeline.
However, there’s no confirmed connection between the Chicago footage and the upcoming celebration.
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things concluded on Dec. 31, 2025, bringing the story of Hawkins and the Upside Down to an end after nearly a decade.
Netflix has not announced a sixth season or a secret continuation featuring the original cast, and neither Wolfhard nor McLaughlin has publicly confirmed what they were filming in Chicago.
For now, fans will have to wait to find out whether the two actors’ reunion has anything to do with Stranger Things or is simply another project bringing the former co-stars together.
