Steve Kornacki has earned a serious break, according to fans who watched the beloved NBC News analyst step away from election night coverage after a marathon 10-hour shift.
Kornacki, known for his trademark khakis and energetic breakdowns at the Big Board, spent much of Tuesday, November 3, tracking election results during NBC News’ extensive midterm coverage.
But his seemingly abrupt departure from the livestream caught viewers’ attention, prompting an outpouring of affection on social media.
During the broadcast, Kornachi suddenly said, “OK folks, we’re going to keep on. I am going to take one more break; I just need to take about five minutes here, but I’ll be right back.” He walked off set, leaving silence on-air around 3:26 a.m.
A little after 4 a.m. Kornachi posted, “I was sure 13 hours would be fine, but things caught up to me in a hurry at hour 10. I can’t say thanks enough to all of you. What a ride, and I think we did make livestream history. Sorry for the abrupt ending!”
The Instagram post capturing the moment quickly filled with comments from fans who weren’t quite ready to see him go but certainly weren’t holding it against him.
“Steve has earned a LONG nap,” one person wrote, while another declared, “I was locked in the whole time on the Kornacki cam. Dude is a legend. Go take a long nap my guy, you’ve earned it.”

Others were equally supportive of the analyst’s decision to call it a night.
“Let that man rest,” one fan commented, while another joked, “When you gotta go, ………”
One viewer pointed out just how much work went into Kornacki’s appearance, writing, “10 hours. Not including commuting in, and prep. Probably 12 hours. My guy, go home and recharge till Thursday, we good! Oh and THANK YOU!!”
Another fan praised the analyst while acknowledging the demanding schedule, writing, “Steve, like all of us, is getting older and his break is well deserved.”
“Love you Steve!!” another person added.
The reaction comes as Kornacki’s dedicated livestream has become a major attraction for election watchers. NBC brought back the popular Kornacki Cam for the midterms, giving viewers an uninterrupted look at the analyst as he followed the numbers and broke down races throughout the night. The network had promoted an ambitious 13-hour election coverage schedule, running from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.
And judging by the reaction to his exit, viewers weren’t just tuning in for the election results. They were there for Kornacki, too. Hopefully he’s still asleep.
