The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA)/Hospitality Technology Next Generation (HTNG) today announced Hotel Shield as the recipient of the 2026 AHLA/HTNG TechOvation Award. Now in its 11th year, the award recognizes innovative technology solutions addressing the hospitality industry’s evolving needs, and the people and companies behind them.

This year’s winner is recognized for its AI-powered security platform designed to help hotels combat human trafficking. Hotel Shield uses real-time AI vision to detect trafficked individuals by matching them against watchlists, then delivers instant alerts to on-site staff and corporate security. The platform also supports alert response, case management, incident resolution, and partner-based investigations.

“Hotels are continually seeking technology solutions that help teams operate more efficiently, enhance the guest experience, and drive business performance,” said Rosanna Maietta, President & CEO of AHLA. “It’s exciting to see new ideas evolve into practical solutions year after year, and this year was no exception. Preventing human trafficking is a critically important priority for our industry, and we’re especially excited to see Hotel Shield recognized for its innovative work and commitment to helping combat this issue.”

“We’re thrilled to be recognized by AHLA/HTNG with the TechOvation Award,” said Kevin Clough, President of Hotel Shield. “The hospitality industry has a unique opportunity to help prevent human trafficking, and Hotel Shield exists to give hotels the technology to do exactly that. Being chosen for this award further validates the strength of our technology and the real impact it’s having every day.”

Hotel Shield was selected from nine semifinalists representing the forefront of hospitality technology innovation. Hotelier judges from the AHLA/HTNG Global Technology 100 evaluated submissions to select the semifinalists. At The Hospitality Show, each semifinalist presented its solution, with judges scoring the presentations and the audience voting live among the top three finalists to determine the winner.

The 2026 AHLA/HTNG TechOvation Award semifinalists were:

  • Agilysys Intelligent Guest Profile, by Agilysys
  • AI Upselling, by Canary Technologies
  • Bridge App by dailypoint™, by Toedt, Dr. Selk & Coll. GmbH
  • Lead Shark, by Jacaruso Enterprises
  • Engage, by Alliants
  • Hotel Shield, by Hotel Shield
  • Nexity, by Towne
  • Optylink: Scout Intelligence™, by Optylink
  • Instant Quote, by MeetingPackage

This year also marked the debut of the AHLA/HTNG TechOvation Award’s international edition at HTNG Connect: EMEA in Edinburgh, Scotland. HPE won the inaugural EMEA award for its HPE Networking Wi-Fi 7 Hospitality Access Points & Self-Driving Networks, which gives hotels flexibility as they modernize connectivity and move toward AI-powered, self-driving network operations that help detect issues earlier, reduce manual effort, and keep guest-facing experiences running smoothly.

The AHLA/HTNG TechOvation Award highlights the importance of continued technology innovation across the hospitality industry, recognizing solutions that help hotels enhance operations, improve guest service, and address emerging business challenges.

As part of AHLA, HTNG advances global hospitality technology by connecting hospitality companies, technology providers, consultants, media, and academic experts to foster innovation and collaboration across the international hospitality industry.
