British Columbia Mounties say two people have been arrested and charged in two separate extortion-related shootings in Surrey last year, including one that targeted Kap’s Café, owned by Indian comedian Kapil Sharma.
RCMP say B.C.’s extortion task force is announcing the two men, both 22 years old, were arrested Sunday in Surrey and remain in custody, facing one count each of recklessly firing a gun in the incidents on Oct. 12 and Oct. 16, 2025.
In the first incident, police say officers responded to report of shots fired at a home on 103A Avenue, where a woman sustained injuries.
Four days later, police responded to another shots-fired report at a café on 120 Street, where two employees who were inside were unharmed.
The details of the Oct. 16 shooting match those of an incident at Kap’s Café, the site of two previous shootings in which video taken from the point of view of the shooter or shooters in vehicles was shared widely on social media.
In November 2025, police in India announced they had arrested the “prime conspirator” behind a series of extortion-linked shootings at the café, a 28-year-old man who they say fled to India after being charged with offences in Ontario.
Chief Supt. Duncan Pound with the B.C. RCMP says the latest arrests and charges are the result of extensive investigative work involving multiple judicial jurisdictions, search warrants and detailed analysis of evidence.
“These charges should serve as another clear message to those involved in extortion-related violence that law enforcement is working collaboratively to ensure public safety,” he said in a statement issued Friday.
The work of B.C.’s extortion task force has so far led to 28 charges against 14 people, the statement adds.
